I have got VS setup with the windows the way I like 'em and the menus and toolbars organised to suit the way I work. If I close and reopen VS, naturally enough, everything loads the way I left it.

However, if I close VS having had the ORM addin loaded, the next time VS starts all of my windows, toolbars, etc are back to some default state. Now, I know that the problem isn't being caused by ORM loading when VS starts as I have the addin set to disabled by default and if I close VS, having not had ORM running this session my saved toolbars are remembered.

I don't know if it's just me or if this is occurring to anyone else with a similar setup (WIN7x64 Ultimate, VS2K8 Pro SP1, ORM 2010.2.714.1) but it's been happening here for a while. I have only just come to the conclusion that it's ORM causing the problem, I have, in the last 7 days, completely rebuilt my machine and installed everything from fresh.

For anyone watching it appears that there is a problem although, as yet I can't say what it is.

FWIW, the workaround seems to be, for me at least, to ensure that you /don't/ have the OA addin configured to load on start up and that you make sure you've disabled it before closing VS.

Another possible workaround it to save your windows, toolbars and menus settings (using Export and Import settings) with the OA addin disabled and unloaded. Save this someplace safe and try reloading it manually on VS startup. I've not tried this but it seems to make sense.

I'll post back here if I get something more positive from telerik support.

Hello Stuart Hemming,

Sorry for the delayed silence. We are still looking into the problem and optimising certain addin unloading code. Hope that should solve the issue.

We will keep you updated.

Best wishes,

How's this coming?

Is there, perhaps, an internal build I can have a play with that might have this fix in?

Copied from the duplicate forum thread (now closed) on this topic. Posted by Ady on Sep 8...

We have refactored and improved parts of the menu handling code for the addin and are currently testing this (successfully) with all versions of Visual Studio. If all goes well this should be available with the next internal build.

For those of us following this thread, do you have any idea when we might expect the next internal build (just a ball-park date will do)?

I'd like to point out that this issue still isn't resolved (I'm currently using build 804).

Hello Stuart Hemming,
Yesterday we have released a custom build that will fix your problem: 2010.2.1013.8. Please give it a try.

Yay!

Only the briefest of tests, but a load, close and reload of VS left all of my toolbars alone!

Woo-hoo!
