I'm using the PDF Viewer to display PDFs in a browser based SL app. In the past I had to use a browser window or OOB mode, so this is a very nice addition. But it seems that the viewer is not able to display certain types of PDF files. I think it has something to do with the PDF version number, because I was able to display a PDF with version 1.3, but not one with version 1.4. No error is displayed and nothing is shown, so this is only a guess. Could someone please give any specifics about the PDF formats currently supported?

Thanks,
Martin

Hi Martin,

There is no specific version of PDF we are supporting. If the PDF file is created by certain rules you will be able to open it in the RadPdfViewer no matter its version. However, we are working on expanding our range of supported documents for the upcoming versions of the control.
You can open a support ticket and attach sample documents which are not imported in the control, so that we can investigate the cause and be more specific about the timeline of when they could be opened.

Hi Tmatt,

We are building our own engine to render PDF. It would be great if you send us some PDF files you have problems with, so that we can investigate the problems and improve the import.

Hello Tmatt,

You can open a support ticket and attach a zip with the files that are not loaded correctly.

I have experience similar problem as well. The problem I am experiencing is that I can open the PDF file but everytime I reach a particular page, Page 4, for me, it crashes. The page has a bit more images than the previous pages. I am not sure if this is the reason. I will open a support ticket for this one.

Else, I am happy with the addition of this new tool.

Hi Deepak Shakya,

This is a known issue with fonts that are embedded in the PDF file, but are not supported in SL. It should be fixed in the just released service pack.
Could you try loading the documents in the online demo (clearing the browser's cache may be required). In case the problem persists, we would appreciate it if you could send the documents in a support ticket as you have offered.

Best wishes,
Kammen

Hi Kammen,

Thanks for the info regarding the service pack. Where can I download them?
  • I haven't got any pop-ups in my VS2010 saying that there has been a new release available.
  • I tried the online demo.
  • The file loads fine.
  • I can navigate pass my "page 4" document. It doesn't crash. But it fails to display the page. It is just black.

Also some the rendering is not working as it should. I cannot open the support ticket. Do you have an email account that I can send the test document?

Hello Deepak,

You can download the service pack version of the controls from your account -> Download and Manage your products -> in the section RadControls for Silverlight choose "Download" and select the resource you want to use - installer/hotfix (dlls only).

As for sending a support ticket, this is not possible because according to our records, your support has expired. You can open a ticket of type General Feedback and attach the file there.
