Hi Jonathan,

We do not have anything similar yet. If more people show interest we will definitely research it.

Me too I need it ... I think we can do it by putting a treeview horizontally ... But actually, we can't have a horizontal treeview isn't it ?

The dream is to have a kind of horizontal treeview with RadDocks as nodes.

Can Telerik team give me any ideas to implement this ? With telerik components or any other means ... I'm working with webforms

 Thanks,
- RadTony

Hello RadTony,

To research the matter further, is it possible for you to direct us to a similar component that illustrates the organizational chart with drag and drop capabilities? Thus we will be able consider the options better.

Hi Sebastian,

I googled a little yesterday and found this component http://www.aasoftech.com/Products/ChartNet/default.asp  (see also the corresponding picture in attachment). This component is for dotnet webforms, so it's interesting.
Otherwise, there is no drag and drop enabled.

I'm thinking about putting RadDocks in a DataList but first I must get some experience with RadDocks as I have never used them.
I'm also thinking about a RadTreeView in the left which enables drag and drops in itself and then the right part of the screen (containing Dynamically generated RadDocks) would refreshe itself to represent the same structure as in Treeview ... with only 3 levels visible. Let us see ..

Any suggestions or ideas are welcome.

thanks,
- RadTony

Hello RadTony,

Thank you for the provided resources.

Although we do not offer such type of control as part of our suite, you can try out the schema you have already come upon with - a combination of RadDocks (inside a DataList) to manage the layout of the organization along with RadTreeView instance on the left with drag and drop capabilities. The idea is to refresh the left and right side accordingly (you can ajaxify the controls by RadAjaxManager for example) when you drag and drop items.

These online demos can be good reference points for your custom implementation:

RadDock

RadTreeView drag and drop

RadAjaxManager

Hope that you will find them useful.

Best regards,
Sebastian

Yes Sebastien !

I have discussed with my project manager and we agreed on the same conception (treeview on the left, docks on the right and why not a splitter between them !)
I have already seen the first two links and the last link on RadAjaxManager would be really helpful : thanks a lot.
Well it's time to put all these together.

Hi there.

Google currently has an org chart app which is pretty easy to use but not drag and drop and very limited in formatting and layout options. Would be good to have something more full featured than this.

Hello,

I really like your idea of using Raddock and Treeview to have DragandDrop functionality....Have you any sample
code available at your end, it will be really helpful to me.......

Hello guys,

We introduced AJAX OrgChart control with the Q3 2011 release of the suite, hence you may consider using this new component in your projects. Drag and drop feature for this control is planned for the next major release, due next spring.
