Has anyone tried to connect to an Oracle DB using DevArt's dotConnect data provider among with OpenAccess ?

OpenAccess works excellent with Oracle.DataAccess.Client, but how about dotConnect?

If this is possible, how to do it?

Thanks!

Hi Cosmin,

I am afraid that currently that is not possible and there isn't any workaround that I can offer you. I would like to ask you what is the reason behind the need to use the dot connect in favor of the Oracle.DataAccess.Client driver?

Hi Petar,
Thanks for the quick reply!

My company purchased DevArt's dotConnect, and, from what my team leader said, it has better performances than Oracle.DataAccess.Client. Moreover, dotConnect for Oracle can be used without Oracle Client Software installed.

A new project has to be done in the near future, and we need a ORM solution. That's how I got to Telerik OpenAccess (an excellent product from my point of view). But, they paid for this dotConnect data provider, so they want to make use of it. :-)

A little comparison that he gave me:

Thanks a lot!

Hi Cosmin,
Sorry to disappoint you but we do not support the devArt database drivers at the moment and we don't have it in our plans. However I added that as a feature request in our backlog and if there are more request regarding this functionality we will prioritize it appropriately.

Hi Andy,

Thank you for your feedback. We will take into account your vote.

The feature is not yet planned to be implemented in the near future, so I cannot provide any time frame for it.

Do get back to us if you have any other useful ideas about improving OpenAccess ORM.

I want to point out some reasons why Telerik should reconsider their plans on supporting DevArt Oracle provider:
- Good:
Oracle is major player in corporate IT, and that's what our customers use
No Oracle client network software installation needed using direct mode!!!. This is really a plus.
(think about the pain dealing with centralized managed computers and the reluctance to change anything on the client oracle configurations)
    Good performance, just works
- Problematic:
    lot's of version updates (fixes)
use of license file is a hassle
