Problem:
The added icons to the toolbox do not show.
When an icon is highlighted the output window in VS shows
"Failed to load metadata assembly Telerik.Windows.Controls.Charting.Design, Version=2009.3.1314.35"

System:
Fresh install of:
VS 2008 Prof.
Latest Silverligh (Runtime, SDK, Tools, Toolbox) - all for v.3
Expressions
Telerik Rad Controls
Telerik OA

Fresh means: PC was vacuumed clean from all and any VS2008 related installs, drivers, SDK's etc. (any version). Also Anything Silverlight and Telerik was also removed. After that: First VS2008Prof + all service packs was installed. Then all Silverlight related installs + Expressions, Then all Telerik controls.

The Telerik controls were visible in Toolbox-Choose Item-Silverlight Tab.
The project type is new/empty Silverlight Application - trying to follow your tutorial "Working with Telerik GridView, Dock, and Chart for Silverlight"

Any ideas?

P.S. Couple of things I noticed - putting them here hoping somebody might be able to see the obvious :) which I cannot see
- If I drag-drop into the XAML page a Telerik.GridView and then open in Expressions I can see the grid.
- This was added

xmlns

:telerikGridView="clr-namespace:Telerik.

- Also the proper Telerik references were added to the Project References
- In Expressions I can also see the Telerik controls with their icons.

Hello Moni,

I just want to make sure that you have already tried to add our Silverlight controls to the Visual Studio 2008 toolbox by following the approach that is demonstrated in this help topic.

Best wishes,

Yep, I did follow these.
I attach a three screen shots.
One from just an empty Silverlight Project
One from your Prism demo project 158668_telerik-prism-updated-2009q3
One from the same Prism prj but from Expression Blend.

Hm ... now for some reason they are all grayed out (inactive). I am running a demo version of the controls downloaded a week ago.
Regardless - if you notice the icons are all the same. I also opened the same Prism project from Expression Blend - icons all visible there (last screen shot).

Many thanks for helping.

Hi Millan;

I have not yet moved to VS10 yet, hopefully as of MIX, I'll move to VS10 and SL4. Can you tell me if the Q1 version will install into VS10 automatically or there still issues with Visual Studio?

Just a P.S - you never know what info will turn important.
Environment:
  • VS 2008 SP1 + all additional Windows updates.
  • Only VS 2005 in parallel.
  • Sliverlight 3.
  • .Net framework - up to 3.5 + latest service packs

No presence of any

  • VS 2008 Express
  • VS 10
  • Silverlight 4

Hi Moni and Ben,

Several people have reported the same issue but so far we haven't been able to reproduce it on our machines and we do not have a concrete recipe for solving the problem. Sometimes such problems occur due to incorrect installation of Silverlight or Visual Studio. Here is one thread on silverlight.net that has some relevant information. Maybe VS 2005 is to blame but I am just guessing. Hope the information is useful.

In regard to VS 2010, our WPF and Silverlight suite installers will install the controls into the toolbox. Also our assemblies should appear in the AddReference dialog of Visual Studio. In addition to that we have improved the Blend 3 support and our controls will appear in a separate category - for example, "Telerik RadControl for WPF ..."

All the best,
Milan

Milan,
Many thanks for the response.
To close the issue I marked your response as the answer.

What you say leads me to believe that it is an issue specific to the particular PC and it could be resulting from un-identified problems when one installs and uninstalls VS products.

If every body was getting it - you will be able to reproduce and fix it. But now ... it is a matter only of convenience. I can still work with the icons as the label is clearly indicating the meaning.

Thanks.
