Hi,

I'm new in telerik radmap control. I want to know if is possible to use local raster and shapefile data to make a GIS aplication without using web maps like bingmaps or google maps, etc.

Is it possible?

Best regards,
Gonçalo

Hello Gonçalo,

You can use empty map provider to place geographic data on the map. Please see the Empty Provider example.
http://demos.telerik.com/silverlight/#Map/USA
The Empty Provider help topic you can use also -- http://www.telerik.com/help/silverlight/empty-provider.html

Unfortunately current version of RadMap control does not support the ESRI shape-file data.
This feature is planned to the future release. You can check when this feature will be available using the following link:

Hello Asiq Raja,

The 2010.Q3 release supports the ESRI shape files. You can find more information in our demo application:

Hello Ricardo,

It seems it is possible to create a map provider for navteq. According to documentation you can use SOAP or HTTP GET RenderBitmapImage Request:
http://www.nn4d.com/site/global/build/web_services/static_map_bitmaps/map24mgiservice/renderbitmapimage/examplerenderbitmapimage.jsp
http://www.nn4d.com/site/global/build/web_services/static_map_bitmaps/map24mgiservice/renderbitmapimage/httpexamplerenderbitmapimage.jsp

I have attached the solution with custom provider for Open Street Maps. You can use this code as a base for your navteq custom provider.

Best wishes,
