[Solved] iOS developement - is an Apple device really required?

I have taken the plunge and invested in a Apple developer account. Now I run into the issue that I seem to need to have a n Apple device before being able to build my App for iPhone/iPad.

Since I don't have any, I am wondering what my options are?

You must have iOS device to test it on. 

There are too many differences between simulator and actualy device to relay solely on simulation.

I would suggest buying  second-hand iPod Touch (as long as you are not doing something with geolocation.)
First iPad is also quite cheap on second hand market.

Evgeni ... I realize you need an iOS device to use for testing, but what about the initial processes that you have to do to get your app ready for the Apple store that involve getting that Certificate Signing Request (CSR) and etc. Does your product work through all that for us PC uses, or do we need to find someone with a MAC to sign certificates?

Hello Lisa,

 You can use Icenium to create the certificate signing request you need to create a developer certificate in the iOS Developer Program. We've tried our best to document the process here. Please don't hesitate to ping us with any questions you might have about obtaining a developer certificate on a PC using Icenium.

I have done the process a couple of times myself. I ended up quite frustrated and was about to give up on publishing for iOS, until your Icenium employee Evgeni helped me.

The conclusion was that in my case the only way to get things to work was to close Icenium after each step and restart it.

I have to say that this was during the beta stage of Graphite, not sure if this still is the case.

I read through that a few times ... I see that Apple asks for the CSR in step 4 and the instructions on the screen shot say you have to generate it in a MAC to get keychain access or something. My question is ... is this something I can do through Icenium? I don't have a MAC to generate this. BTW... I already have the Apple Developer enrollment done.

Hello JD,

 I believe your case is rather an exception than the norm. We have tested the process from different environments and internet connections. We have experienced such problems only when a lot of packets are lost en route. We are working on solution that will have better feedback to the user when things are going wrong with the connection.

That was what I meant when I wrote 'In my  case...'. For me, the whole beta traject (and now the first official release) has been a treat to work with and especially your help in the case I described above was of immense help.
