Over the New Year's holiday I had to reset my Windows 8 laptop, so I'm starting over, reinstalling Visual Studio, etc. And of course reinstalling various Telerik controls/suites. I'm installing 16 different ones. I started this yesterday. After 24+ hours, it is still stuck at where it was last night, installing the 9th out of 16. What's wrong? Why is it taking so long? Should I stop it?

I have downloaded the trial to determine if this is a product I want to purchase for my team. I can tell you right now, I do NOT have a slow machine and I have 1 gig (abit) download connection. It took 20+ minutes to download and install. I am not sure what the heck takes that long, but its not my hardware ware and connections. If in fact it does NEED to take that long, then you need to so a better job of describing what you are doing (ie downloading, installing A, B, C of product). Else, besides being annoying, it is extremely suspicious.

Strike 1 of the trial.

Hi Wade,

Thank you for sharing your feedback about our installer.

Installing all our products and integrations can take 20 minutes as there is a lot of data and settings that need to be downloaded and applied.

Our installer offers some options which could help you make the process faster.

If you have used our Ultimate Trial installer it has all products selected for installation by default.

You could deselect some of the products if you don't need them which will reduce the time for installation.

On the next step you are presented with several customization options which greatly reflect installation time.

The first one is the Install Demos section where you could turn off some products Demos if you don't need them or turn on others.

The second one which has great impact on installation time is the Visual Studio Integration section where you could select which products should integrate with Visual Studio.

We offer integration for many Visual Studio versions and instances so here you could turn off the integrations for products and versions of Visual Studio you might not be using as installing this integration usually takes noticeable time and this time is longer with each additional product and Visual Studio instance combination that needs to be installed.

After you log in and the installation starts you are presented with installation progress page which displays the progress of each product download and installation.

Please let us know if there was some difference in your experience or if you have additional feedback which could help us improve the installation experience.

Hello Rod,

It is not normal for the installation to take so long unless you have a really slow internet connection. To check if it has hanged can you please post a screenshot of the Telerik installation in progress in this thread and additionally archive and send this folder %ProgramData%\Telerik\Installer\Logs to clientservice@telerik.com.

Looking forward to your reply.

Kind regards,

Hello Teodor,

Well, it's been roughly 48 hours, none stop, trying to install the Telerik controls. Here's what it has:

hung

Early in the month I am extremely busy. Often I only have a few moments at home, before I have to take off and go to some other meeting. I've only got a few minutes tonight and then I'm off to the next meeting. That's the way it is this week, so I've not had any time to look at this closely. tonight, when I was making this reply I found there was a dialog box, hidden behind the hung display I pointed to above. Here's what the dialog box said:

hidden dialog box

Frankly, is that what made this installation hang for so long? man, when you can't watch what's going on due to other responsibilities, having this appear to hang for 2 days really sucks!!! What in heck in H2Reg, anyway? Why do I need it? Where do I get it?

Well, the links above didn't work. Man I never know how to share out any photos on SkyDrive. OK, here's a link to the folder:

Hi Rod,

Sorry for the bad experience, pressing OK will continue the installation. Showing the dialog is not a desired behavior - we have fixed it for future releases. It is shown by the H2Reg tool which is used to integrate documentation with Visual Studio 2008 and earlier so you don't need it.

Don't hesitate to write if you have further issues.
