The installation worked for me with SP1... maybe you should try re-running the SP1 installer (do a repair if necessary) to make sure your system is actually registering that you have SP1 installed?  Otherwise I can't think why the installer would fail like that.

Hi,

Yes, Service Pack 1 of VS2008 needs to be installed before installing Telerik WebUI Test Studio.

If the installer still asks you for VS2008 SP1 when you already have it, please send us a support ticket with details of your environment and we will troubleshoot with the same setup.

Thanks.

Hello,

Although it has happened just a single time, we had the same problem locally with VS 2008 SP1 installation on a virtual machine. A repair/reinstall however did resolve the issue. The WebUI TestStudio now runs successfully on this machine as well. You can review this article on MSDN for details on the process.

Let us know if this helps or if you need further assistance.

I figured a repair install would do the trick.  Hope that works for you guys!

Also, is there any particular reason we need to have SP1?  Couldn't WebUI Test Studio also work without SP1 - what are the breaking changes?  This problem would be avoided nicely if SP1 weren't a requirement.

Hello,

Indeed, you are absolutely correct. However, WebUI Test Studio requires VS 2008 SP1 due to a test project model fix that was part of the release.

It is also important to note that VS 2008 Professional or Team System (any edition) is also required. This is due to the missing Test Project type in VS 2008 Standard edition. Hope that helps as well.

Were you able to play with the tool? We are looking forward to your feedback.

When installing the WebUI Test Studio on two separate virtual machines, I ran into the "Please install Visual Studio SP1" error. It turned out both times that I had run out of free disk space on the virtual machine, but the SP1 installer did not indicate that it couldn't install everything due to running out of disk space.

So, if you run into this error, especially on a virtual machine, check the amount of disk space. I think we found that at least 40GB free is needed to set up the environment.

Hope this helps!
