Is is possible to insert special HTML characters into the editor? I am trying to insert the bullet (•) or square (■)

The special characters tool is not yet implemented, but is logged in the issue tracker. Until it gets implemented, you can create your own editor custom tool to insert the characters, or use the View HTML custom tool to edit the HTML manually.
