While we tested JustTrace for compatibility with Windows 8.1, we found an issue which we could not resolve on our side.
As you know, our “Attach to running application with Memory profiler” feature uses Debugging Tools for Windows, which are part of Windows SDK. Our test shows that the 8.1 Windows SDK does not work in our scenario. Therefore, you cannot use JustTrace with the 8.1 SDK.
As a workaround, install Debugging Tools for Windows from Windows SDK 8.0. You can download this SDK from here (note, the link may change). Note, that you can use the 8.0 and 8.1 debuggers side-by-side.
To install only the debuggers and not the whole SDK, navigate to the downloaded files (default location is %homepath%\downloads\Windows Kits\8.0\StandaloneSDK\Installers) , and manually start “X64 Debuggers And Tools-x64_en-us.msi” and “X86 Debuggers And Tools-x86_en-us.msi”. These installers have only a basic UI without any prompts, but the products should be successfully installed when the progress window closes. To verify, go to Start Menu/Start Screen and check whether WinDbg is present.
