I just downloaded the product, because i have an in house application with lost code.  I tried to drag-n-drop the EXE, MDB and even DLL's and they all say "is not currently supported".  I'm not sure what I am suppose to do to make this work.

Hello,

JustDecompile supports only a valid .dll/.exe/.winmd files by default. So this may be an issue with JD or your files are not valid in some way. Can we get a copy of one of your not working assembly so we can further investigate it.

Hi, again,

I just noticed that this thread started in 2012. I'm sure we should know the issue by now. :-)

Would it be possible to post the resolution here?

TIA!

Good day,

I understand that this is a very old thread, but I am having hope to get some help here

I am trying to decompile a dll file with no luck. It says JustDecompile only support valid CLR assemblies.

May your please describe the problem? (I have already read the previous posts above)

Thanks,

Hello Ian,

If possible you could send a link to the assembly you are trying to decompile. As noted in the previous threads the most likely reason is that your library contains non-.NET code/files which are not supported for decompilation. SO if that is the case the decompilation is outputting the error when it is trying to handle the unsupported files.

Hi,

As previously described, JustDecompile can only read a valid .dll/.exe/.winmd. Also JustDecompile will look only for those types of files when there are any xap/zip/appx presented in the treeview. All other files will be ignored from JusDecompile and the following message will popup in those cases:
"JustDecompile supports only valid CLR assemblies. Not supported files(s)".

I developed my web site on my desktop PC and published it to the web server. Recently I had a hard drive failure on my desktop PC and lost the development code. I was hoping that JustDecompile would help me retrieve the lost code behind the screens, but I have not been able to get it to work. Is there some user documentation that would help or can you give me some guidence?

Hi, Randy -

Try here to start: http://www.telerik.com/products/decompiler.aspx

Lot's of good info and even some extensions you might find useful.

Good luck with your code recovery!  Just Decompile is a good tool - it should help a lot.

Hello everyone,

Richard, thank you for the help! You're absolutely correct.

Randy, besides the sources which Richard has sent you, I'd like to ask you two clarifying questions:

1. Can you clarify a bit more what you mean when you say that you haven't been able to get JustDecompile work? Any screencast or other media showing the issues will be also appreciated.

2. Is your website developed using .NET? I ask you this as JustDecompile decompiles and works only with .NET code.

Kind regards,
Vladi

Hi,

I developed a Web Application, utilizing Visual Studio 2017.  I published the project to the Web server and it is now working as designed.  For some unexplainable reason, I lost the Source code to the project and now I need to add some additionality to it.  I tried JustDecompile to create a project from the EXE, but that does not work.  The code will not build and the Web folders are missing.  Is there any way for me to recover the complete project as I had it in Development?

I have a previous version of the code, but it is missing some of the latest updates and modifications that I added towards the end of my development cycle.  It would be great to recover the complete project.  Please let me know the steps that I can take to get back.

Thank you for your guidance and support.

BTW, I attached a screen shot of the published files that are currently running on the Web server.

Hi,

Rather unfortunately, you cannot restore the project 1:1 as you had it in development just by using JustDecompile. The project generation feature will generate source code and resource files for the given assembly. However, generating a project that builds and works with 1 click is almost impossible, due to the versatility of both - C# (VB.NET) and MSBuild. Furthermore - it is not the main focus of the tool, but rather producing accurate and valid code.

So, restoring your project's source code with project generated by JustDecompile as a base point you may need to do some tweaks and changes. In your case I would suggest to start with the old version of your application as a base point and build the final product from there. You can use JustDecompile to peek in the source code and to extract resources from the assembly of your app. Then by having all parts you can compose the whole source code and eventually - build and run it.

Hey Arbri,

As discussed in all of the previous threads, the issue is hard to pinpoint and perhaps related to trying to decompile a code that is not NET. If that is the case, hardly anything can be done as JustDecompile supports only decompiling NET projects.
