Hi please excuse my lack of knowledge as im not a developer but a customer trying to find a solution to a problem my developer is having.
We are buiding a hybrid app with geo fencing and we are trying to use a custom mp3 for our notification. It would not let us use a custom one and when we changed it it would crash the app. They said they cant find a solution but I cant help but think this is something alot of people would want to do and there must be a solution to fix this.

I looked at the geofencing plugin and it looks that the plugin itself does not support sounds for the notifications. So I assume you are using it along with cordova-plugin-local-notifications. I see there are couple of issues reported for Android and iOS, that have been fixed with cordova-plugin-local-notifications' beta release from 31th October last year.
You may try to update to more recent version of it in order to get fixes, even though these are beta releases. Still, there is one open issue regarding playing mp3 sound that you can follow here.
Another possible problem, especially for iOS, could be that mp3 files may not run on iOS devices as this issue states. You may try converting it to some other compatible audio format.
One last thing to pay attention could be the specific place of the audio file. Please check out this thread explaining a fix regarding having the sound file in "res" folder.
