Graphite does not always load properly or loses its connection.  Here are a few things that have happened:

1)  Twice, I've been working and saving during a session, only to have graphite stall when when I tried to commit changes.  When this happens, I force closed the app.  When I restarted the app, not only did I discover that none of files had been committed, but also that all the work I had done that session was lost.
2)  Sometimes when I start up Graphite, it loads, but none of my projects are listed under "All Projects."  This has been happening consistently for the past half hour.
3)  Sometimes, I am able to "open" one of my projects but the project explorer section is missing (i.e. none of the files in the project are listed so I can't do anything).

A few things to note:

1)  I have a very solid cable connection and have had no internet connectivity issues.  I have checked it each time I have experienced a Graphite connectivity issue.  There is no problem with my internet connectivity.
2)  I've opened up fiddler while trying to open Graphite (someone suggested that in another thread) but I saw nothing out of the ordinary.

I hope you can explain what is going on because losing hours of work is very disheartening.

Hi Don,

We are very sorry about your whole experience and we want to get to the bottom of this problem. Can you please send us the Graphite log files to support [at] icenium.com? You can find those here:

C:\Users\[name]\AppData\Local\Telerik\BlackDragon\Logs

Thanks for your cooperation. It is greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Stefan Dobrev

Hi Stefan,

I've sent those log files.  I also wanted to add another strange error that I see on occasion when I try to open Graphite:  My project opens and my files are visible, but Graphite says that there are 71 errors, all in kendo.mobile.min.js.  Of course, I have never touched that file.  I then close and reopen the project 2 minutes later and that file has no errors.

Best,
Don

Hi Don,

I have carefully examined your logs and it seems you have hit a number of problems. Some of them have already been addressed, others been logged in our bug tracking system.

It seems that the most reoccurring issue (as you have observed as well) is that you are losing connection to our servers. Can you share more details about your work workflow? Are you developing from a notebook? Are you constantly connected?

All the best,
Stefan Dobrev

Hi Stefan,

I use a desktop computer with a wired connection to my router which is connected to my cable modem.  The cable connection is very reliable.  I rarely have connection problems and had no problems with any other internet-connected apps during the same period of time that I experienced the Graphite problems.

Maybe noteworthy is the fact that I leave Graphite open for hours at a time, sometimes all day.  The most disconcerting part of all this is that I thought my work was being saved as I was working (I hit Ctrl-S very often), but apparently it wasn't.  I'm assuming that is because Graphite had lost internet connectivity.  However, there was no indication that it had (at least that I could see), so I kept right on working.  If it had just told me that it had lost connection on the first Ctrl-S failure, it would have been a great improvement.

Best,
Don

Hi Don,

Thanks for your explanation. We are going to setup a dedicated local environment on our end that will be used for tracking down of this problem. We will leave Graphite open for days and will occasionally connect/disconnect devices and save periodically. I will keep you posted about our progress.

Kind regards,

Don,

I have some good news for you. After a lot of investigation we were able to isolate the issue and tracked it down. We have implemented a fix that will be available in the upcoming public update of Icenium.

Please give the new version a try (once available) and let us know how it will go for you.

I have also experienced the issue multiple times where changes to files are not actually saved.  Everything looks like it's saving, but the simulator stops reloading when you save and even forcing it to reload doesn't load the changes.  I then have to close out of Icenium and when I go back in, all of my recent changes are gone.  Luckily for me, I normally notice when the simulator stops updating and manually copy out my changes to another location and put them back in after restarting Icenium.  This just happened again this morning, so it seems to still be an issue.  I will send some recent logs to the email address you posted earlier in the thread.

Thanks Keith for sending those. We have examined the log files and they are quite different from the one Don has previously sent to us.

One of your problems relates to code completion in the editor and we will further investigate it.

The other one is an OutOfMemoryException which might cause the application state to get corrupted and thus resulting in data loss. Can you share more details about your hardware configuration and OS version you are using? What is your typical development workflow? Are you constantly using the simulator?

Now that you mention it, I might have had some memory pressure not directly related to Icenium that morning (who knew that 16 GB wasn't enough? ;-) ).  I understand that handling issues related to out of memory exceptions may be harder, but I think that it's important that if changes to files are not being pushed to the cloud even though Icenium is acting like it is, either the program needs to force-quit/restart when an issue like this come along, or it recover gracefully when memory is available (I know, not an easy thing to do).  At a minimum, there should be a warning when this happens that changes may not be saved.

You definitely have a point Keith.

We will investigate a possible ways to mitigate such problems and provide a clear notification for the users that the project state can get corrupted and a restart might be required.

Guys, thanks for your feedback. It is greatly appreciated and this is what will make Icenium an awesome product.
