I love the auto-suggest textbox in Facebook when sending messages to friends.  I also love the RadComboBox.  I foresee a beautiful marriage between the two in Telerik's future!

I'd love to use the RadComboBox to select an item, then have that item be added to a running list.  An amalgam of the ComboBox and the DualList control, if you will.

Thoughts from others?

Hello MJ.

RadComboBox already provides similar functionality - please see it in this demo.

Is this what you are looking for?

No, not quite; though I've seen this before.  This requires the user to plug in a semi-colon after each entry.  It also requires the user to hit the drop down list to view items each time, as opposed to having the list appear immediately when I start typing.  Facebook also has areas that display an image in the drop down list.  Also, check out the styling of the selected items.  Very cool.  Even and option to delete a selection by clicking the x.  With the Telerik example, you can't delete an entry after it's selected without deleting ALL entries.

Hello MJ,

Indeed the feature will be a nice addition to the existing RadComboBox functionality.

There have been other requests for this feature in the past so we will consider implementing it after the next SP is out as now time does not permit it.

All the best,
Simon

That's great! This feature will be a definite plus.  If I wasn't a subscriber already, this would be one of the reasons I would purchase Telerik.

Great news!  I'll keep an eye out for it.  My renewal is up in March.  Give me a good reason to renew! :-)

Just curious if this feature is still on track to be included after the SPs. SP2 has been release and looking forward to the next major release with this feature.

Hello Scott,

We are currently working on another major feature of RadComboBox and rescheduled this one to a later time period.

that's too bad that this feature is not included in the roadmap.  I think a lot of people are looking forward to having this feature.

Adding my vote for this feature too, would be very helpfull! Is this feature request available in the PITS system too?

Hello Martin de Ruiter,

No, the feature is not logged in PITS yet.

We have been researching and thinking about the feature for a long time and stumbled upon various limitations.

The most important one is that if we decide to integrate the feature into RadComboBox it will lead to a lot of changes to the control itself as it now does not allow such a complex behavior. Additionally the rendering is extremely different and we may end up with a different control if we make the changes; not to mention that it is unclear if the old functionalities will be able to exist after the modifications.

In this sense, we think that such control is better designed as a separate piece of functionality/behavior. Still, for now, we do not have plans for implementing this control.

On the other hand, we made a lot of improvements to RadComboBox' autocomplete functionality. You will basically get the same behavior as in the suggestion box discussed in this support thread except the 'close'-boxes - you will be able to select different Items only by clicking, which will enable easier deletion. All of the improvements are now available through the latest internal build of Telerik.Web.UI and will be with the upcoming Q3 2010 release as well.

If you have other suggestions for improving the current autocomplete functionality of RadComboBox even further, please share them. We will be glad to evaluate and eventually implement them..

I hope this helps.

Sincerely yours,
Simon
