This default solution for showcasing Telerik controls is very comprehensive, but there is some missing code in the demo project preventing it being useful to a developer.

For instance, the examples.xml file used to populate the menu appears to be managed by some hidden code which understands the tags: IsHomeExample="true"and IsCTP="true"

It would be really useful to be able to get at this code in order to more fully understand some 'tricks of the Silverlight trade' and help utilise the Telerik tools.

Can someone shed some light on this?

Regards, TriSys.

Hi Garry,

The Examples.xml file is only used for some configuration, regarding the online examples. All of the related code is placed in the QuickStart assembly. Unfortunately at present we are not providing the source code of the project. Let us know if you have a particular question regarding our examples.

Hi Kaloyan

Thanks for your reply.

That's a pity about the quick start assembly source code because without it we cannot really use that sample as the basis of any production or even customer rapid application development/prototyping work.

Surely the intellectual property of Telerik is in your components, not your demo code? We are not asking for source code to your products, only the demos which will surely help us understand how to architect Silverlight applications better?

I strongly believe it is the role of the tools vendor to develop components, but also to develop demo/sample/example projects which demonstrate how to fully utilise those components. When selecting a tools vendor, those that provide demo source code always get my business over those that do not.

Please reconsider your approach.

Regards, Garry.

Hi Garry,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. We appreciate them.

The only reason why we do not provide the source code of our sample demo application is that it is entirely and specifically built for our quite custom needs. The application is complicated and it is meant to work over our source control. It is simply not usable when the source code is separated from the back-end source control logic. We completely understand the need for real life LOB applications that use our controls. Therefore we keep on extending the samples demo base we provide. Apart from the available demos that are featured in the online QSF:
http://demos.telerik.com/silverlight/salesdashboard/
http://demos.telerik.com/silverlight/myalbums/
http://demos.telerik.com/silverlight/mytweets/

Currently, under your account you can download the source code of the Sales DashBoard application.
Also, we started another series of blog posts on real LOB application development:
http://blogs.telerik.com/evanhutnick/posts/10-02-22/real-world_recruiting_application_using_radcontrols_for_silverlight_3_part_1.aspx

Hope this clearly indicates our intention to provide the learning curve for Silverlight development and how you can best benefit from our controls in this platform. I also hope these would be helpful to you.

All the best,
Nick
