Hi ..Ben,
there is no built in compression in RadUpload. If you have a ZIP library you can compress the content before sending it. You can attach to the FileUploadStarting event and alter the file stream.

Hi Valio;
If you recall, I had asked before if there was a plan to have a SL Zip control and you mentioned No. Unfortunately, any of the Zip library that I've looked at, requires the full .Net and can not be used on the client side with SL.
Then I thought perhaps the upload has a GZip or similar built in to reduce the upload size and we won't need the zip control.

Hello ..Ben,
Unfortunatelly the RadUpload doesn't have such a build-in optimizations. And till now we do not have any plans to do so.
I can add it as feature request and let you vote for it (or even entire Zip library for Silverlight)?
Best wishes,
Miro Miroslavov

Hi Miro;
For SL being a remote/client app by nature and SL being used a lot in Multimedia cases, updating Media assets and cases where a set of data needs to be uploaded, is very common. It would be very helpful to add Zip to both side for client and server and also add GZip [as an option] to the upload control.
I see three of the other SL vendors support that and I'm sure many people need it.
If you add it for vote please let me know.
Thanks!

Hi Ben,
I've added your feature request in PITS under the name "Upload: Provide built-in compression". Tomorrow the latest you will be able to vote for it.
