Hi all,

I fear this is a silly question, but I don't seem to be able to get a straight answer by Googling. There's all sorts of waffle about "Universal Apps" but nothing conclusive.

Do Windows Phone Apps run on Windows 8?

Like how Android Apps run on phones and tablets?

I'm thinking probably not... but wondering if there's a way?!

Thanks,

Rob

Hi Robert,

Generally speaking, when developing apps for Windows Phone and Windows Store even though some code base sharing is possible, you need to build different project types for each of the platforms. This is, unless, you'll take advantage of the "universal" approach, further described in thr Building universal Windows apps for all Windows devices tutorial.

As for AppBuilder, at the moment it does not support Windows Store Apps and you cannot use it to build apps that will run on Windows 8. Our plan is to provide  support for such apps utilizing the new "Universal" (Phone, Tablet, Desktop) concept in Windows 8.1. However, as AppBuilder leverages Apache Cordova we need to first wait for Cordova to adopt the universal apps approach and therefore we cannot commit to any specific time frames. But we have this task logged in our feedback portal where you can track its progress.

I hope this information helps, but please don't hesitate to get back to us if you have more questions.

Cordova does support windows 8 apps...

http://cordova.apache.org/docs/en/3.5.0/guide_platforms_win8_index.md.html#Windows%208%20Platform%20Guide

It would be so awesome to have that added ability!

Hello guys,

Currently Cordova supports Windows Store apps independently from WindowsPhone 8 apps. But as far as I know Cordova 3.6.0 will include support for the universal approach I previously mentioned.

In any case, we have this task logged as a feature request in our feedback portal where you can both vote for its implementation and track its status.
