Hi, Ian,
Currently, there is no consistent way to detect when the month has changed and what is the current month that is shown when in Month Mode. I have logged the functionality as a feature request and you can follow it on our Ideas & Feedback portal - Calendar: Introduce event when changing Months in MonthView. I have also added some points to your account for bringing up the suggestion.

That would be cool Stefan. Maybe it could fire for all of the months that are about to appear and, for each month, you can give it a set of appointments. Then appointments can be loaded from the database on demand.
