Is there an automated way of getting an app to detect if a newer version exists (Apple Store or Android Play)?
I would like to have the app alert the user of a newer version and also the ability for then to choose to update to the newer version.

Hello Aaron,
Actually this is implemented as a service from the public stores like Google Play and Apple Store and you don't need to make your own version check.
However, if you really want to make your own one I believe you can do that by developing a service which will be used by the app to compare versions and notifies if new exists.
