I just installed the trail version of your silverlight component and i followed the online documentation on adding radcontrols to your toolbox, so i added the RadChart and then i double click on the control from the toolbox and i got this message. This is not Rad if you have to do crazy configuration just to get started...i reinstalled 3 times, i dont have the beta version of vs2010. Also i called your sales number today and i got hung up on 2 twice..know thats some bad luck.

Hi Michael,
Sorry for the troubles indeed!
We're working with limited capacity in the Easter holidays, hence the phone not answered.
As per the RadChart error, do you have Silverlight 4 and the Silverlight 4 Tools installed?
Kind regards,
Erjan Gavalji

Hi,
I have the same issue.
I uninstalled the trial version (RadControls_for_Silverlight4_2011_1_0315_Trial.msi) to upgrade to a licensed version (RadControls_for_Silverlight_4_2011_1_0419_Dev.msi), but now I run into this issue.
Whenever I try to put a Silverlight RadChart control onto my design surface, it raises this error (see screenshot).
The older (trial) version worked fine.
Kind regards,
Peter

Hello Peter,
I wasn't able to reproduce the problem locally. However a possible reason could be if the toolbox didn't upgrade properly.
You could try the following in order fix the problem:

You could try the following in order fix the problem:
- Close all Visual Studio instances
- Start a Windows Explorer
- Navigate to %localappdata%\Microsoft\VisualStudio\10.0
- Delete the tbd files located there (note, you would need to have the System and Hidden files visible to see the TBD files)
- Run Visual Studio and try to use RadChart
In case this doesn't help you could also try to start the RadControls_for_Silverlight_4_2011_1_0419_Dev.msi again and choose the Repair option.
Let me know if that helps.

Hi Biliana,
Thanks for your mail.
Unfortunately it didn't solve the problem.
I removed the tdb-files => tested in VS2010 => Error.
I did run the msi with Repair => tested in VS2010 => Error.
Removed the tdb files again => tested in VS2010 => Error.
I tested with other controls (RadCalendar, RadGauge, RadClock), all of these work fine. It's just the RadChart that's raises this error.
Kind regards,
Peter
PS: The upgrade of the existing code went fine. So existing RadChart-XAML is also ok.
So I can continue developing by copy/pasting existing xaml to add new charts.

Hi Peter,
There is an incompatibility between VS 2010 SP1 and Silverlight 5 beta.
Could you please take a look at the following forum post and tell me whether this is your case?
Best wishes,

Hi Biliana,
It is a possibility. I do have VS2010 SP1 and the Silverlight 5 Beta.
However, uninstalling the Silverlight 5 Beta didn't seem to solve the problem (I already tried this before), so I reinstalled it.
If I understand correctly the problem lies with Microsoft, but they didn't provide a solution yet.
Kind regards,
Peter

Hi Brian,
I eventually succeeded in uninstalling Silverlight 5 Beta.
The problem was that after uninstalling it, it was still being used by the Silverlight Launcher (sllauncher.exe in folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft Silverlight). Version 5 was still there.
If I remember correctly, I had to
- reinstall SVL 5 Beta
- remove it with CCleaner. (There was no Uninstall option in Add/Remove Programs!)
- Shift-Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft Silverlight
- Let CCleaner clean up the registry
- reinstall SVL 4
SVL 5 also caused problems with ChildWindows (CPU throught the roof for some minutes)
The next time I'll test a SVL Beta, I'm going to do it on a Virtual Machine! ;-)
Kind regards,
Peter
