I've been trying to change the style and template of the grid for a couple of days now and it's been hard because there are a lot of controls to be changed and it's not easy to find which one needs to be changed to achieve our objectives.
Things we wanted on the grid:
- Have the grouped values aligned with the columns
- Only have horizontal lines and not vertical
- Everything that is on the office dark theme as gray gradient as white
- The filter icon only visible on mouse over (column) or when the values are currently filtered (sharepoint style..)
- Based on an example here at telerik's site I've managed to do so. I've just changed it to a double line because on the example the grouped column's text would get on top of any other column's values if it was too long. Still has some sort of bug.. sometimes the first row when expanded shows the cells empty.. Any idea why?
- The property on the grid solved it for the rows but not for the column's footer. How do to so, what style/template do I have to change and where to apply it to?
- Almost got it.. But the rows still have something on the beggining (when grouped) and the group item also has the same style. Where do I apply the style I'm creating "GridViewGroupPanelItemStyle1"?
- So far so good but to have it's opacity to 1 when the values are filtered do I have to to it by code or can it be triggered on the template?
Thanks.

Happens when running the application and grouping a column.
Line 1140 of the xaml -> if GroupFooterCellStyle="{StaticResource GridViewFooterCellStyle1}" is added to the column it returns an error when running:

Straight to the questions:
1. You may take a look at the following forum thread.
2. You need to use GridLinesVisibility property of RadGridView and set its value to Horizontal and you will get only horizontal gridlines.
3. I am not quite sure what do you mean by "Everything that is on the office dark theme as gray gradient as white", so it could be great if you could be more specific. You may also take a look at the following online article that will give you the information you need to make your own custom styles.
4. I have prepared an example for you that demonstrates this approach through editing the template of GridViewHeaderCell.
Let me know how I can assist you further!

It's the same sample I've used before. It has that problem with the grouped column... it's text overlaps the other columns "footer" (Ex: A. Datum Corporation is over the text Employees:...) I solved this by adding a new row and separating one from the other and maybe this is what's causing the "bug" with the misterious missing of the cell's content. Try running my project and grouping the first column and the first group row has some empty cells.. this behaviour doesn't happen all the times..
"2. You need to use GridLinesVisibility property of RadGridView and set its value to Horizontal and you will get only horizontal gridlines."
Ok but the grid's column footer has vertical lines and I want those removed. How can I achieve so?
"3. I am not quite sure what do you mean by "Everything that is on the office dark theme as gray gradient as white", so it could be great if you could be more specific. Ok.
"4. I have prepared an example for you that demonstrates this approach through editing the template of GridViewHeaderCell."
My mistake I meant "The filter icon only visible on mouse over (column) AND when the values are currently filtered ". Your example does what mine is currently doing but I've been unable to make the filter icon visible when the values are currently filtered and the mouse is not over the column header...
As for the GroupFooterCellStyle error any idea why it's happening?
Thanks.
Please find my answers in the following order:
1. I believe that the case you described is specific. You may send us a small application with the defined style so that we would be able to debug it on our side and provide you with an appropriate solution.
2. The GridLinesVisibility property of RadGridView will not affect the GridViewFooterCells. If you want to remove this border, you need to edit the template of GridViewFooterCell and reset its BorderThickness property.
You may find attached an example that demonstrates how this can be achieved.
3. Intially the FilteringDropDown in your custom GridViewHeaderCell style is not visible. However when the mouse is over it is displayed and you may show the FilteringControl only when you click on the filtering icon, but if the mouse is not over it its visibility will be set to collapsed.
Do you mean that you need to implement programmatic filtering of maybe I missed something?
I will be waiting for your response.

Yes. Try the attached one.
I read somewhere the the grid will have this feature (aggreate function values on group bar) any idea when and if will be released?

Filter the values on one of the columns. You will see the filtering icon disapearing once you remove the mouse from over the column header. Correct?
What we want is to have it visible to indicate that the values on that column are currently being filtered. It should disapear only if nothing is filtered.

It's a work in progress to completely redesign the grid's look to be more "clean like the ones at the www.mint.com.
- Still haven't found how to solve the "horizontal scrool bar" issue (in this case it shows it and I believe that is only because of the right border...)
- Still haven't found where to remove the extra bottom line at the group's footer
- Still have to do some work on the grid column footer
- Would like to have the column filter icon visible when the values are actually being filtered and it only shows it on mouse over or if the column is being sorted.
I have used SilverlightApplicaton81.zip for the reference to change the layout of GridviewCell
<Style TargetType="telerik:GridViewHeaderCell">
<Setter Property="BorderBrush" Value="{StaticResource ControlOuterBorder}"/>
<Setter Property="Background" Value="Red"></Setter>
<Setter Property="ToolTipService.ToolTip" Value="{Binding RelativeSource=DataMemberBinding}" />
</Style>
Where telerik namespace comes from
xmlns
:telerik=http://schemas.telerik.com/2008/xaml/presentation in ur sample.
But when i set in my own silverlight application im getting error...
When i explicityly set
xmlns
:grid="clr-namespace:Telerik.Windows.Controls.GridView;assembly=Telerik.Windows.Controls.GridView"
I can get same...
Y im not getting
xmlns:telerik=http://schemas.telerik.com/2008/xaml/presentation
You can get such issue if try to use our URI namespace in Silverlight 3 application. This is supported only in Silverlight 4.

I was referring to CarlosLima post from 22nd December. His questions haven't been answered and I'm having the same problems as him.
I have a latest post about my grid template "mission" at http://www.telerik.com/community/forums/silverlight/gridview/style-items-not-found.aspx and you can download the project and try it on your computer to test if it works. You can also check the references to see if any is missing on your project that might be causing that.
Another guy who has made a very nice layout as posted here some issues but not the full template code.
Carlos
I am a bit confused here. The references you need to synchronize RadGridView's definition with Telerik schema are as follows:
1.Telerik.Windows.Controls
2.Telerik.Windows.Data
3.Telerik.Windows.Controls.Input
4.Telerik.Windows.Controls.GridView
I'm apologise if I caused some confusion here.
What I wanted to say is that I don't have that issue which Marcelo refers to but I had in the past with some other controls and I suggested he checked his references on his project just in case that was the reason for that strange behaviour.
Carlos
Not sure if it's a bug of the grid or silverlight...
I'm hopping that the next release of the controls will support the alined grouped values without having to "tweak" the grid as we do.
Vanya, any information about what the next release might bring to the grid?
Carlos
The Q3 2010 SP1 release is just around the corner and will be out in just a couple of days. Unfortunately the issue with aligned grouped aggregates was postponed for one of our next releases.
All the best,
Vanya Pavlova
the Telerik team
If you're going to postpone it you're bound to provide an acceptable workaround. We can't wait any longer.
You can use group footers if you want aggregates aligned with columns. You can check this demo for more info. You can hide group header aggregates if you set ShowHeaderAggregates for GridViewGroupRow with style.
Kind regards,Vlad

BTW there was nothing attached to your message.
Just a quick look at the number of posts on this forum and the grid is way up in the top.
For companies like Marcelo's and our own, we use it all over our business silveright application. Every xaml has at least one grid and countless charts..
The people who use our business applications are mainly economists and people who have been working on the financial business all their lives, so has you can imagine, they will only accept this applications if it brings them something new or at least helps them to quickly get the information they need (and they are used to get from excel...)
I've been working with Silverlight for some time now and I know that sometimes it's a living hell to achieve the results we have on our heads but this feature (grouped totals aligned with the columns) seems to be very important and telerik should put some more effort on it, otherwise nobody will "enjoy" the messy look that it currently has (specially when you have a lot of columns with a lot of values you have to scroll to the beginning of the grid to see the value...)
Having that said, I must also say that after having tried the components of other suppliers yours do have the best performance!
Thanks,
Carlos
