Hi,

I am trying to setup community edition on a Win2k8R2 server.

The pre-requisites are all ok , database ok and install proceeds just fine until it reaches "Status: Creating Shortcuts" in the installer at which point it is trying to access our AD share and install shortcuts for the whole company !

This is the error in the windows event log
Product: Telerik TeamPulse -- Error 1303. The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: \\local.XXXXXX.com\root\Applications\StartMenu_\General\Programs\Telerik. The installation cannot continue. Log on as administrator or contact your system administrator.

The installer does not give me an option to change the location or override this and if I select Custom install there is nothing to select !

Basically its Game Over with this product unless there is some way for me to workaround this issue  - can anyone help ?

I am running Telerik_TeamPulse_CommunityEdition_v1_SP2.msi

Hi Chris,

We have tested the installer in a Windows 2008 R2 environment many times and have not experienced the behaviour you are seeing.  The installer should indeed be creating the shortcuts on the drive of the server and not in the Active Directory store.

Can you please provide more information with regards to the environment you are installing in so that we may understand what might be tripping up the installer?  For example, are you running the installer for a local drive or a network drive?  Are you an administrator on the machine?  Do you have any domain policies in place that might be attempting to channel shortcuts to a global area in AD?  Are you attempting to install in a Citrix environment?

Sincerely yours,

Hi,

Thanks for the information - I checked with our admin guys and found exactly what you mentioned :
"Do you have any domain policies in place that might be attempting to channel shortcuts to a global area in AD? "

Answer : Yes !

I was connecting to the server using my own login ID as I am aliased as an admin on the server - unfortunately the domain policy also picks up my profile and so if the installer  asks for the Startup folder its getting a value supplied from my profile. The admins have given me a local account to use with admin rights and no AD profile so I will try that.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Chris,

I'm glad we understand what the problem is now.  Installing as your domain user and having a roaming profile will result in this.  Let us know if you have any issues installing as the local admin.  We're here to help :-)

Best wishes,
