I upgraded to the latest internal build (2011.1.405.1040) because the Q1 2011 release had a column visibility bug, but it looks like the build has a different bug. When ShowInsertRow is set to true, changing the columns' IsVisible property doesn't have any effect.

Indeed, you are quite correct. We have encountered the cause of the issue and it has already been resolved. The fix will be available in our Service Pack coming in a couple of days.
