Just wondering... Cordova released version 2.7.0 yesterday, but in Icenium the highest version I currently can use is version 2.4.0? I am not looking for a current version within 24 hours after Cordova releases a version, but Icenium is now 3 release behind.

Version 2.4.0 was released back in februari!

How will this be in the future when Icenium is a product someone has to pay for?

Hi JD,

Thanks for bringing up this topic. As you know we plan to update Icenium on a regular basis and this includes support for the latest version of Cordova as well.

Adding a support for a new Cordova version is a challenging task on our end, because we have to ensure that this new version works correctly on all devices and Icenium's key features (LiveSync, Simulator, etc.) are supported. All plugins and samples have to be checked and updated as well to work against the new version. Having all those logistics in mind sometimes we might want to skip a Cordova version update and invest our time in developing other highly requested features. This decision is not taken solely on our end but driven by you - the community. For example we heard loud and clear that we should support Cordova 2.3-2.4, because of the InAppBrowser functionality. Did you find some feature/bug fix introduced in 2.5-2.7 versions of Cordova critical for your application?

Something that we want to ensure once we go live with payment plans is stability. We want all existing client projects to work with the latest Cordova version we support and if there are breaking changes - those to be communicated in advance. That's also one of the reason we might want to skip a Cordova update or wait for the appropriate fixes to be implemented.

On a side note as we are rethinking our backend infrastructure in order to enable custom Cordova plugins we are also taking into account how to enable quicker support for new Cordova versions as well.

Hope this helps in clearing our strategy about Cordova version upgrades.

I started this thead because I noticed that the prompt dialog didn't work in my project. I found in the Phonegap documents that this is a relatively new dialog that doesn't exist in Phonegap 2.4.x. I ended up creating something with html and css, but this took some valuable time.

I appreciate the time you invest in development of the Icenium tools and I don't think that skipping a Cordova version doesn't hurt many people. However, I feel that being one version behind Cordova would be acceptable.

Curious to hear what other people think!

I agree, a current minus 1 version would be acceptable/preferred.
