I read recently in the old Windows 8 forums that blob/byte[] columns are not supported in Data Storage. Is this still the case with the Windows Universal libraries as well?

Thank you for your interest.
DataStorage for Windows Universal has the same feature set as this for Windows 8. However we will consider implementing blob columns in our future releases but for now we do not have a specific time frame.
