Symptom - Persona Catalog button (in ribbon) fails to work

Steps to reproduce

  1. Click the "Story Management" tab (works as expected)
  2. Click the "Persona Catalog" icon (works as expected)
  3. Click the "View User Stories" icon (does nothing as you are already viewing stories, works as expected)
  4. Click the "Persona Catalog" icon (nothing happens)

Ability to reproduce - Every time

Note: Once this condition occurs, you are unable to Delete or Edit any story in the Storyboard grid but you can Add a new story.

Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joe,

Can you let me know what browser you are using? I have noticed a similar scenario, but only while stories are still loading into the story list grid, something which is potentially slowed by some interesting performance issues that occur within Firefox and Chrome (but not IE). So for example, in the scenario I am aware of, if 500 stories are loading they will load in chunks of about 30 stories. As the 'chunks' come in and are being renedered, my UI locks a bit and my Persona Catalog button (along with others in the UI) becomes unusable. However if I wait until all the stories are loaded, the buttons all work as expected.

Could the above perhaps be the symptoms you are describing, or do you feel  your issue is something else?

Internet Explorer 8 - version: 8.0.6001.18904

Unfortunately I only have two stories in the grid and as I put in my initial report, not all functions associated with the ribbon menu fail to work. You can click the "Add a new story" icon and the screen will change to that item.

I think it's a UI issue and not a browser issue at this point.

Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joe,

It would seem you are likely correct that it is not a loading issue if you only have 2 stories in your list. I am not able to recreate the error, but I have logged it internally for test in hopes that our internal testers can uncover the method to reproduce. If you feel you have any more information pertaining to the recreation of this bug (although your steps are pretty clear), please don't hesitate to post it :)

Update: I tested this in the following browsers and I was able to reproduce the bug in all of them.

Internet Explorer - 8.0.6001.18904
Firefox - 3.63
Google - 4.1.249.1045 (42898)
Safari - 4.05 (531.22.7)

Thanks,

Hey Joe,

This might be asking a lot, but would you mind using a tool like Jing to record and upload (to screencast.com if you use Jing) a short video showing how you encounter the error? We have had several developers and now testers attempt to reproduce internally with no success, and so we assume we are not understanding the steps correctly.

I can but there is absolutely nothing to see since nothing happens when I click the button.  :-)

Update: It will have to be later next week for the video as I will be out of the office till mid next week.

I can arrange to saw it live via webex if you want. I am in the US, eastern standard time.

Maybe some of the outside (customers) beta testers could try this and report back too?

Thanks,
Joe
