Hi,

I would like to know how to handle Banded Grid View with XAML and RadGridView.
The Banded Grid View displays data in a two-dimensional table similar to the Grid View, while organizing columns in bands

Is it possible to do this easily or do you plan to integrate this functionality in future releases ?

Regards.

Hi Catherine,

Can you please attach a screenshot of what do you mean by banded gridview?

Thanks

Hi,

Banded GridView specifics : Bound data is arranged in columns and rows. Columns can be arranged in bands. A column is represented by a BandedGridColumn class instance. Each column's GridColumn.FieldName property corresponds to a unique field name within the data source. All columns are stored in the BandedGridView.Columns collection.

Please see the attached file to know what I mean.

Regards.

Hello Catherine,

Thank you for the additional explanations. To my regret, this is not possible in the current version of RadGridView. We will add it in our list for future consideration.

Sincerely yours,

We are currently using some of the Telerik SL controls.  We need a grid with banded columns.
Based on this thread Veselin Vasilev said "We will add it in our list for future consideration."

I searched the PIT System, but did not see this feature request.
Was it actually added to the list?
If so, has it been resolved (and in which version)?
If it has not been resolved, can you tell me the current status?

Both ComponentOne and Infragistics have this feature.  While we have been happy with the Telerik controls this feature is a requirement for us going forward.

Thanks,
Terry

Hi Terry,

I am afraid that this feature is still not available but you could take a look at this blog post which offers something like a workaround which allows you to arrange columns in bands. Unfortunately this approach does not allow you to reorder columns and I am not sure if this would work in your scenario.

Here is the link to the public PITS item for banded columns.

You have indicated that this feature is a must-have for your application. May I ask you if you need this now or if you will needed in the future - for example in two months time?

Currently this feature is not in our agenda for Q2 but I will speak with the guys and let you know if we can re-prioritize some other tasks.

Thanks Milan.

The workaround is probably not the approach we will take.
I did go vote for that PITS item.
We are in a position to be able to wait a couple of months.  The 2011 Q2 SP would be great.

I appreciate the quick reply,
Terry

Hi Terry,

I spoke with the other guys and we will raise the priority of Banded GridView for our next release (Q3). Q2 will be released around mid July which means that we will eventually start working on the new feature right after that.

All the best,

Hi,

Will it be possible to reorder columns and rows with drag and drop ?
Something like that : http://demos.devexpress.com/ASPxPivotGridDemos/SampleReports/CustomerReports.asp

Kind regards.

Hi Catherine,

Some sort of column reordering will be supported but keep in my that the link that you have provided refers to PivotGrid which is a totally different component.

Hi,

By any chance, do you plan to develop a PivotGrid component in your next release ?

Best regards.

Hi Catherine,

The Pivot Grid component is in our development plans. Due to the complexity of this component we cannot be certain for the exact moment of its availability.

Could I get an update/progress on the Banded GridView feature?  Is the planned implementation something like a collection of bands and each band has a collection of columns?  What about nested bands?

Also, what is the expected release date for the Q3 SP?

Thanks.

Hi Terry,

Since me and my colleagues had some hesitation on what do you mean by "Banded GridView". Can you please a picture of the expected result on the screen . A small excel mockup would be fine.

The expected release date for the Q2 SP is within a month , and Q3 is expected at the end of this year. Regarding the Q3 SP you were asking about .. it is a bit early to tell whether and when  there will be a service pack for Q3 .

I think it's not very good to place here a link.
But you can enter in Google 'Banded grid view' and the firs link will show you an example.
Well this is a grid with some grouped header rows.

    Customer      |  Quantity
Name | Number |
Alex      23                  1

I can't find any banded grid for WPF or Silverlight. It would be very very good if you will be first!!!

Hi Denis,

It seems that you are referring to merged headers and indeed this feature will be available officially with our Q3 2011 (middle of November)  - Q3 2011 Beta will be published before the end of this week.
