Am I able to allow my users to auth into my portal from their telerik.com account?...or is that something custom you guys have setup?

Visit our Ideas & Feedback portal to submit a feature request, vote on existing requests or submit general feedback.
We're changing how our authentication works. The changes will be available in 2013 R1 release.
It will allow you to use public authentication providers as Google, yahoo and Live ID to authenticate in TeamPulse and Feedback Portal. You will be able to accomplish authentication similar to what we have on our feedback portal.

...but what about leveraging the telerik.com sts (like you guys do)?
Would my site have to be trusted in order to do that?...could I even do that with the way you're doing it?

It will not be possible to use the Telerik sts service as it isn't exposed for the customers. For now it is only internal for telerik sites.
With the new TeamPulse you will have build in STS service that you can configure to use external providers so you can have the same behavior as Telerik sts.
You will have the build-in functionality to log in with:
It will look very similar to the Telerik STS except that you will log with TeamPulse user instead of Telerik user.
