Besides standard requirements for such a control, in my case I'd be very interested in a year view with horizontally arranged months and vertically arranged days below.

The Calendar control already exists as a feedback request:

Probably we will have this component in the suite after Q1 2013.

Hi Ahmed,

RadCalendar is scheduled for our Q2 2013 release around mid-June. You can check all the upcoming features/controls in our Product RoadMap.
As for the other question - there will be no built-in support for appointments, but you will be able to achieve the desired functionality via adding custom content to the calendar cell template.
