I was wondering if the functionality is available to create manual tests in Test Studio and then open the tests in the VS Plugin version. When I attempt to open a manual test now i get an: "The operation could not be completed".
Thanks
John

Hello John,

Your suspicions are correct; the Manual Testing feature is only available in the Standalone version. You cannot open Manual Tests in the VS plugin.

I have a question about the following scenario that was mentioned in one of your videos about Agile and Test Studio. Lets say our "Tester" who has the full version starts creating the manual tests while the rest of the developers are coding. Once things start getting to the point that they can be tested, the the "Tester" will start automating the manual tests. It was mentioned that this is one of the reasons why the devs would have the plugin so they could then help in the automation once they have finished coding. If the tests were created manually at the beginning of the sprint, how would you convey those steps to the dev to automate?
Thanks
John

Hello John,

You would use the Convert to Automated feature on the Manual Tests by toggling the "IsManual" property. Once a test becomes automated, it can be opened and edited in the VS plugin.

Thanks, I think that is what I was looking for. After just playing with the flow I did have a few other minor questions. It looks like the ismanual checkbox is not required to open it in the vsplugin, but you have to click on the fast forward test. Once I did that it then opened up in the vsplugin. One strange thing I found is that if you have the ismanual checked on a test and then open it up in vsplugin, it will actually run the manual test runner. I could not find a way to turn off the manual test runner in the vsplugin. Once I turned off the ismanual in Test Studio I could run it normally in the vsplugin.
Thanks for the help.

Hello John,

You've actually come across behavior that is not functioning as designed and that we plan to change soon. You're right: the VS plugin can currently open and execute Manual Tests that contain one or more automated steps. This is not intended, however.

Until this is corrected, please only load Web tests ("IsManual" disabled) in the VS plugin.

All the best,
Anthony
