[Solved] Barcode Scanner plugin

I'm about to develop an application that requires scanning QR Codes and I'm about to choose the development platform.

Can I use the Barcode Scanner plugin with Icenium?

If so, are there any examples?

Hi pete,

Currently we do support only the ChildBrowser plugin. We plan to greatly expand the list of supported plugins in the upcoming releases. If you want the Barcode scanner to be among the first integrated please vote here.

being new to Phonegap and Icenium then "ChildBrowser plugin" is meaningless to me.

I'm looking for a development environment to solve a particular problem. Maybe you could explain a little more.

Hi pete,

The ChildBrowser plugin is a plugin that allows you to open a separate browser control (WebView) and interact with it. It is the most mature Cordova plugin and also handles a lot of scenarios like: OAuth, Facebook Connect, etc.

Regarding your particular need Barcode scanner plugin is not yet supported. We do plan to support it as well in the future.

Do you have any idea of timescales for porting the Barcode Scanner plugin?

Pete,

We do plan to update Icenium on a regular basis and I'm sure that Barcode scanner will be among the next supported plugins, so stay tuned. Christmas is coming and we will see what Santa will bring to mobile developers :)

Hi guys,

We've added Barcode scanner to Icenium in Icenium 1.2. What's more in Icenium 1.6 release, we've added the ability to add Plugman-compatible Apache Cordova plugins to your Icenium project. For more information, see Working with Custom Plugins help article.

If it is not compatible, you would have to make the necessary modifications in order to be able to use it, see Requirements for Custom Apache Cordova Plugins and Plugman specifications.

i have a barcode reader in c#, i was wondering whether i can use the icenium as the development platform to scan QR codes. if it not among the supported plugin, i will definetly vote for it. it is simple and useful for us.

Hello Green,

Cordova plugins are written in Java (Android) and Objective C (iOS). We've introduced support for custom plugins in Icenium 1.6, so any Cordova plugin is applicable for usage in Icenium and there is no need to "vote". You can see available collection of plugins in the following link.

Hello David,

The link you have posted is for a C# QR Code generation library. As Steve mentioned in his previous post, Cordova plugins are written in the language, native to the targeted platform, so you cannot use C# code with Icenium. If you need a QR Code scanner, we have an integrated plugin that provides such functionality and if you need a QR Code generator, you can use one of the many javascript implementations, such as this one.
