Migration Guide: Commit Configuration
Updated on Oct 1, 2026
Earlier Forge versions hardcoded commit instructions, including the Co-authored-by: frg <frg@Progress.com> trailer, in task prompts. Commit instructions are now configurable. This page explains what to change to keep the behavior you want.
What changed
- By default,
behavior = "enabled"adds commit instructions without the Forge co-author trailer. - Commands that modified code still commit, and read-only commands still do not commit.
- The only change you get without any configuration is that the co-author trailer is no longer added.
Choose a behavior
Set behavior under [commit] in .forge/config/project.toml.
| Goal | Setting |
|---|---|
| Keep the Forge co-author trailer | behavior = "tagged" |
| Basic commit instructions without attribution (default) | behavior = "enabled" or omit [commit] |
| Handle all commits yourself | behavior = "disabled" |
For example:
toml
[commit]
behavior = "tagged"
Run frg config validate after you edit the file.
