Installing on Linux
Forge supports x86_64 and ARM64 distributions with glibc 2.39 or later, for example Ubuntu 24.04 or later, Debian 13, current Fedora releases, and RHEL 10. Release assets and packages are available for both architectures.
| Architecture | Release asset | Debian package | RPM package |
|---|---|---|---|
| x86_64 | frg-<version>-x86_64-linux | progress-forge_<version>_amd64.deb | progress-forge-<version>-1.x86_64.rpm |
| aarch64 (ARM64) | frg-<version>-aarch64-linux | progress-forge_<version>_arm64.deb | progress-forge-<version>-1.aarch64.rpm |
glibc compatibility
To check your glibc version, run:
ldd --version | head -n1
With GitHub CLI:
gh release download --repo telerik/forge --pattern 'install.sh'
sh install.sh
The installer detects your OS and architecture. On Linux, it uses your package manager when it finds one: .deb with apt-get, .rpm with dnf or yum, or the Arch tarball with pacman. Otherwise, it installs the standalone binary. It checks the SHA256 checksum against SHA256SUMS. It installs the binary to /usr/local/bin/frg (using sudo if needed), or installs the package. Packages install to /usr/bin.
Note: On Arch Linux, the installer can't install from
progress-forge-<version>-arch.tar.gzand stops withNo installable content found in Arch package. Run it with--force-binaryinstead:bashcurl -fsSL https://github.com/telerik/forge/releases/latest/download/install.sh | sh -s -- --force-binary
See Installation Overview for common installer options, environment variables, and exit codes.
Install a Linux package
Download the package for your architecture from the release page, or use gh. Then install it with your package manager.
gh release download v<version> --repo telerik/forge --pattern 'progress-forge_<version>_amd64.deb'
sudo apt install ./progress-forge_<version>_amd64.deb
frg --version
On ARM64, use progress-forge_<version>_arm64.deb.
gh release download v<version> --repo telerik/forge --pattern 'progress-forge-<version>-1.x86_64.rpm'
sudo dnf install ./progress-forge-<version>-1.x86_64.rpm
frg --version
On ARM64, use progress-forge-<version>-1.aarch64.rpm. On systems without dnf, use sudo yum install or sudo rpm -i.
progress-forge-<version>-arch.tar.gz contains only a PKGBUILD for x86_64. Its download sources point outside the public telerik/forge repository, so you can't build a package from it as published. On Arch Linux, install the standalone binary. Use the installer with --force-binary, or follow the manual binary instructions below.
uname -m
`x86_64` means an x86_64 asset. `arm64` or `aarch64` means an aarch64 asset.
2. Download the asset for your platform. This example uses Linux x86_64:
```bash
ASSET=frg-<version>-x86_64-linux # or frg-<version>-aarch64-linux
curl -fsSLO "https://github.com/telerik/forge/releases/download/v<version>/$ASSET"
```bash
gh release download v<version> --repo telerik/forge --pattern "$ASSET"
- Optionally verify the download. See Troubleshooting Installation Problems for GPG signature and checksum verification steps.
- Make the file executable and move it to a folder on your
PATH:
chmod +x "$ASSET"
sudo mv "$ASSET" /usr/local/bin/frg
- Check the installation:
frg --version
