Thrown when document nesting exceeds the supported depth or remaining call stack is insufficient to continue processing.
Documents are processed by recursive descent over their element tree. Without an upper bound on the nesting depth, a malformed or maliciously crafted document can exhaust the call stack and terminate the process with a StackOverflowException, which cannot be caught. This exception replaces that unrecoverable failure with a recoverable one.
