Hey guys,

I know there are some other posts on this. So the setup I've got which is mostly working is with:

  • TLS Decrpytion
  • Streaming mode enabled
  • Loopback Exemption for Mail and Calendar

The odd thing is that if I close Mail (and end the process since it's a background app) and start it up, then Fiddler will capture it fine. The traffic is visible, and the app will operate correctly (sync, send etc.)

However, after some time period, the capturing will stop, and then the app will stop being able to communicate as well. Even if I stop overall Fiddler capture, this will not fix the problem, nor will ending Fiddler (cancelling it's proxy), only nuking the Mail App and restarting it corrects the issue once this occurs. If I don't run Fiddler at all, it doesn't run into this problem, and always connects fine.

Seems like this probably isn't a direct Fiddler issue, I wondered if anyone had any ideas about why it might cease functioning after a time?

Cheers,

Mike

Hmmm I have a further update. If I start capturing after the Mail app is already running, then it will still avoid Fiddler. If I open the Mail app whilst capturing is active then it will not avoid Fiddler for the time described above.

Could this be something strange with my loopback exemption configuration?

Hello,

Now, about the "stop capturing after a while" - I cannot check that immediately, but I will try to reproduce this by letting Fiddler run along the Mail app.

About the behavior of the Mail client where it does not pick up Fiddler as proxy - I cannot reproduce this behavior. No matter in what order I turn on or off both Fiddler and the Mail app, the Mail app always works properly and send that traffic to Fiddler or not (based on the "Capturing" state of Fiddler). It is possible that your Mail client picks up the proxy settings on startup and uses them for the whole session (it seems highly unlikely though), instead of checking the proxy settings on every call to the servers.

Your exemption configuration should be right if you can see traffic from the Mail app at all.

Thanks for the reply, would be awesome if you could reproduce the timing behaviour (it's about an hour or so I think for it to break), I'm checking by hitting the Sync button, it'll stall and give the moving dots when it can no longer sync.

I think whatever is stopping it working after a time is having knock on effects, so maybe the other capturing issues are as a result of that. If I restart everything clean then it does work as expected for the time frame.

Hi,

I've managed to reproduce the timing issue and it is now added to our backlog. Rather unfortunately, it has to be further investigated in order to find the root of cause and apply proper fix to it. This will be done after prioritizing it.

Ah great that you managed to replicate it, and thanks for putting the time in, I'll keep an eye out for the fix at some point!
