Whoa guys, we have not seen that many crashes since the inception of JustCode :)

We definitely wanna see your logs. You don't have to do anything to enable them since they are enabled by default. You can find them in \Users\<userName>\AppData\Local\JustCode\Logs or \Documents and Settings\<userName>\AppData\Local\JustCode\Logs depending on your Windows version. Just zip the whole folder and send it over (you could either start a ticket or e-mail these directly to me at Tsviatko.Yovtchev at telerik.com ). Also, it'd be nice to have a list of the other VS add-ins you have installed.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Tsviatko Yovtchev

Hello,

Btw if Visual Studio crashes with the following exception:

"NET Runtime version 2.0.50727.3082 - Fatal Execution Engine Error (7A035FC0) (80131506)"

you could try installing the following patch from MS:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;963676&sd=rss&spid=8291

It fixes a well known issue that could cause such crashes.

Regards,
Chris

Hey Denis,

Where did you send that? I never got anything. Is it possible that your message bounced back for some reason?

Hi,

My VS2010 crashes and autorestarts when I load my project for the first time, the second time it loads fine.

Is this the same problem?

Thanks

Guys, what kind of project is that happening on? Can somebody come up with a small sample project that causes this behavior?

Also, would you check out your Windows Application Logs and see whether there's an entry related to that crash there? It'd be great if somebody could start VS with the /log option and send over these logs, too.

Oliver, I think you are the first one that experiences similar problem in VS 2010. Could you try out the steps above and send over any info you can collect?

I see this happen on the MWPSK project (download source at http://mywebpagesstarterkit.codeplex.com/)

In my case, this happens mostly the first time. The project is loaded, JustCode starts to process the whole project, and then VS2010 just restarts. From that moment on it works ok.

I'll try to get some log files for you to test.

I am sorry to hear that. Your frustration is totally understandable and I beg your pardon for the inconveniences caused. I assure you that JustCode has been thoroughly tested  both on site and by our numerous customers while in Beta stage. As we all know there always are rarely occurring corner cases that tests won't cover. It's only you and Oliver that encountered that problem so far (and maybe it's not even the same problem since you are using different versions of VS). We highly value each one of our customers and we really want to fix that problem even though it occurs with such extreme rarity. I highly appreciate your assistance so far and I'll be more than glad to get more feedback from you in the future. You should, however, by no means feel obliged in whatever way to spend time on this issue.Once we have enough information to localize it I am gonna start a high priority issue in our internal tracking system and I'll make it visible to you so that you could monitor its progress and grab a build once it gets fixed. So, please, stay tuned and once I gain I beg your pardon for the troubles you've had.

Oliver:
Which version of MWPSK would that be. I just tried it 63977 and it worked fine for me. What is the version of your VS as specified in the Help->About dialog? Also, what version of windows do you have installed?

Having the JustCode logs will be really nice. Also I'd be really obliged to you if you could start VS 2010 with the /Log option and send over the resulting logs too.

I'm running VS2010 RC (Version 10.0.30128.1 RC1Rel) on a Windows 7 Professional (x86).

My MWPSK is not entirely equal to the one on CodePlex, it has many customization for my own projects, but nothing extraordinarly special though.

Unfortunately I can't reproduce the crash anymore lately, maybe that is because I upgraded the Telerik dll's from Q3-2009 to Q1-2010.

If the crash happens again I'll definitely save both the JustCode logs and try reproducing it with the /log option.

The VS I currently have the following add-ins installed:

.NET Reactor Visual Studio Add-in

ANTS Memory Profiler 5 Add-in

ANTS Profiler 5 Add-in

JustCode AddIn

Telerik OpenAccess

Visual Assist X

VMDebbuger

On the next VS runs whatever project I open it crashes at any unexpected time… in 10 sec, in 1 minute… So I have to remove it again….

Normally I use Assist and now play with Reactor few weeks. Thought to move to JC if it could be useful... but… Now it’s not that issue. The issue I had these days as I mentioned on the forum when I uninstalled 09q3 parts and installed 10q1 - the Master database in SQLExpress 2008 was destroyed and I couldn’t run the whole instance. Lucky I did backup. Required lots of time to restore the instance and install 10q1 again. Newer had such (crash and destructive) issues with other VS (visual/non-visual) add-ins J

Denis:

JustCode won't be responsible for your database problem. I assume it's an OpenAccess issue. Have you contacted the guys on the Openaccess team directly, yet? I don't see a forum post by you about that problem. Do you want me to make them get back to you about that problem?

By the look of it your Justcode problems are caused by a compatibility issue with some of the other add-ins. Rather unfortunately, we are not able to test against every version of every add-in on the market so oftentimes issues like this occur. Would you try disabling all the other add-ins and give it another try?

Peter & Steve:

Guys, if you have other add-ins try disabling them, too. If the problem persists we'll have to find out something more about the projects that happens on. Any info you can provide is gonna be extremely helpful. A small sample project would be even more helpful.

Installed JustCode again.

1.       Disabled all current add-ins

2.       Installed JustCode

3.       Run VS2008 with no project. It hanged. Nothing helpful in logs (the same as published before)

4.       Started VS again. It didn’t crashed as usually, worked normally with Projects. JustCode was able to create get/set properties. I played a bit with projects and waited what could happen (as we know, before it could crash at any time what didn’t happen now)

5.       Later on I restarted VS with all add-ins turned on. Nothing happened. Everything worked normally (well, strange)

6.       Uninstalled JustCode to try install it with add-ins turned on as I did before

7.       Installed Justcode

8.       Run VS. It hanged

9.       Started it again. Works now without crashing

So, what has changed? Before, VS crashed after installing while all add-ins were turned on and now it works stable, at least 2 hour. But! I still didn’t start using JustCode seriously. Just created get/set properties. Will see…. Now I have 3 refactory tools concurrently.

Required to run one of the projects which uses telerik wpf grid. Started VS with this project and Run it. VS crashed.

When I started the project to run the Output window appeared as separate window above the working place. So I lost my working place and needed to recreate it again but the project was running. Then I restarted VS with my project and run the project again. Now it compiled and run smoothly.

Added Class1.cs to the project. Created a new class “XXX”. JustCode informed that Type Name  didn’t match the file name. Couldn’t fund the offer to rename the file to the name of the Type in pop-up menu (on the right click). Ok. Found this option in Main Menu. Inconvenient but as is…. Renamed. After that the content of the tab with the code became inaccessible. Required to close this tab and open xxx.cs file again to get the code. Is that ok?

Hi Denis,

First of all, I assume some of the other VS add-ins you have deploy VS Packages too (you could see these at Tools -> Package Load Analyzer). My bad for forgetting to let you know about that, too. So, disabling the add-ins does not provide a completely clean environment. That's why the partial success you had with the add-ins disabled, i.e. you managed to run JustCode after some crashes.

After re-enabling the other add-ins, however, you pretty much end up in the situation you were at initially. The fact that JustCode is able to start does not mean it won't collide with the other add-ins while it's running. I am fairly certain we compete for the same resources and handle the same events as VisualAssistX having in mind the similar functionality we provide (we possible collide on a smaller scale with the other add-ins too, save OpenAccess). Neither us nor them took care to play nicely to each other and moreover in most of the cases it might prove really hard or even impossible to do so.

So, you gotta test JustCode on a clean environment (no other packages/add-ins active) so that you know there are no collisions. Rather unfortunately, fixing the collisions is not an option at least not in some immediate time frame. If you keep all the add-ins on you'll inevitably get unstable environment.

All the best,
Tsviatko Yovtchev

Whatever, JustCode is an perspective product. But required lots improvements.

For example, if I remove { bracket after class definition, the whole code marked red.  It's shocking me! J

The default color scheme looks like a tetris game.  But may be someone likes it J

What else? When you edit line, for example

If (a == b && c==d) and going to enter one more condition in the middle and enter additional “&&” like this If (a == b &&   && c==d) the whole string marked red, not second "&&" only. Also, if you enter If (a == b &&  e.x == f.y  && cc==d) and e.x and f.y are different types, JustCode doesn’t inform you about this.

Probably I didn’t read the whole help but didn’t find any option to correct this.

Well you're right that removing the opening { should cause much less disturbance. I have created an issue in our internal tracking system and that will be fixed. You should be able to monitor it's progress so taht you could grab a copy of the build once it gets fixed.

Rather unfortunately, there's not much I can do about the color scheme. What one man likes other men don't like and vice versa. Besides, Tetris had quite a lot of fans at the time :)

The nature of error underlinings caused by (a == b &&   && c==d) is due to the specifics of our parsing. It will get fixed as we improve and further develop our parser.

The different types comparison is definitely something that should be fixed and I am creating an internal issue for it, too. It should be visible to you again.

Do you want to have your say when we set our development plans? Do you want to know when a feature you care about is added or when a bug fixed? Explore the Telerik Public Issue Tracking system and vote to affect the priority of the items.

I am experiencing this as well with Visual Studio 2008.  VS opens fine, then when I open a project, VS closes without any warnings or errors.  When I do this a second time, it works fine.

To resolve the issue, I un-installed JustCode.  However, the JustCode menu / context menus remain within VS (even though the JustCode folder in Program Files doesn't even exist anymore), and the above described error still happens every time.

Alex,
Same here, uninstalled, still crashing on first load

Do you have any other Telerik Products installed by any chance?

Yes, I have Telerik ASP Ajax, WinForms, ORM, Silverlight, and Reporting components installed as well.  All latest versions.  I'm running on Windows 2008 R2 Server (yes, I use that as my workstation), and have the latest updates for VS 2008 installed as well (SP1).

Thanks,
Alex

I kind of noticed the crashing around when ORM Q1 2010 was installed...what about you?

No, the crashes are definitely related to JustCode.  I had no problems (ever) with the Telerik set of tools and VS crashes.  Problems started happening exactly when I installed JustCode, but continue after I removed it.

Hi guys,

I am really sorry about the inconvenience caused. Still it'd be really nice to have some more info so that we could help you in some way. Otherwise, the only thing I can do is sitting here and hoping for the best :)

So, it'd be great if anybody that experiences this problem could send over the following (you could post it here or start new support tickets so that we don't flood this thread):

1.JustCode logs. These could be found in your AppData\Local\JustCode\Logs

2.A list of all the add-ins currently active in VS

3.The output from starting Visual Studio with the /Log switch

4.The content of any entries in the windows event log that seem related to the crashes

So, Alex, Steve, could you send over these? What you experience is totally unacceptable and it should be fixed. I'd really appreciate it if you bear with me on this one.

Regards,

Perhaps it's related to reporting?

It could be, Steve. It's really hard to tell, however, based on the information we have so far. Could you provide at least some of the stuff I asked for in my previous post? That way I'd be able to rule out some of the possibilities.

Well I'm pretty sure it's not JustCode at this point...that dump is from the VS Crash log...and on THIS PC I never even installed JustCode, where as I did on my laptop and RDC session machines....so there is no JustCode dump to give you :)

So I have the same symptoms on all 3 machines, and theres no JC on this one...however all 3 have Reporting, AJax, ORM q1 2010s

I'm not sure how to tell which add-ins are installed.  Is there a command for that in Visual Studio?

Here is the log from running devenv /log.

Alex,

You can get a list of add-ins at Tools->Add-in manager. You can also switch them on and off there, too. Would you try switching off your currently active add-ins one by one and checking out whether the problem will disappear when some of them is off?

Best wishes,

Hi Tsviatko,

I had one add-in under add-in manager.  It was SQL Prompt 4 from RedGate.  I disabled it, but it made no difference.  When I went to open a web site in Visual Studio, the app closed.  Once I re-opened it, and re-opened the web site, it worked fine.

Not sure if this matters, but I'm about to upgrade to Visual Stiudio 2010.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex,

As far as I can see from your log no attempts are made to load any of JustCode components. Loading some of the built-in VS packages fails though. There are a couple of things worth trying at this point. First of all, start VS like "devenv /SafeMode". That is gonna prevent any third party packages from loading. Hence, any possible interference will be avoided. If that does not help try out "Devenv /ResetSkipPkgs". That will make sure that all the registered packages are loaded hence avoiding any possible dependency problem.

Last resort is repairing the VS installation using VS setup. That will likely fix the problem with the messed up packages.

I beg your pardon for the inconvenience caused.

Sincerely yours,

PS: do you still see the JustCode menus?

I have this problem every time visual studio 2008 opens on w2k3 server.  I do not have JustCode installed, just asp.net ajax.

It started the same day I upgraded to Q1 2010 asp.net ajax if that helps.  I just get a message along the lines that visual studio encountered an unexpected error and must be restarted.  It only happens the first time I try to open a project.  When VS restarts, it's fine.  I don't think I have had a single instance where it has not happened honestly.

Hi Joel,

Soon after the Q1 2010 of RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX, we identified an issue with the associated Visual Studio Extensions. Your problems are most probably caused by that same issue.

The good news is that the issue has already been addressed and the fix is available in the Q1 2010 SP1 release.

You can find out more about the issue in the following thread:
Unhandled exception at "Telerik.VSX.AssemblyDiscovery.AssemblyLister.Init"

Kind regards,
Andrey
