A month ago after a Fiddler upgrade I had a problem where it shows the splash screen and at the bottom it says "Searching for prior instance..." but nothing else ever occurs:  splash screen remains until process is killed manually.

At that time I tried some deinstall, reboot, reinstall activity without success.  Tried removing some Fiddler registry entries as well.

I reverted to version 4.4. something and that worked for the last month.  I was having some https issues so...

Today I upgraded again and have the same problem.  Splash screen says version is v4.6.20173.38786.  That is the only version listed in Control panel/Programs.

The program files do exist in AppData\Local\Programs\Fiddler and that dir is last entry in my PATH.  (Noting some previous installs were in Program Files and Pogram Files (x86) but there are no Fiddler dirs there now).

My account is in Administrators, and running Fiddler with right mouse/ as admin results in same splash hang.

Any ideas why it is hanging on the prior instance step?

Hello,

Sorry for the late reply. I reverted to version 4.4. do you remember the exact version and did you run it the same way as v4.6.20173.38786  with right mouse/ as admin?

Could you, please, also specify which is your Windows version.

Regards,
Simeon

RE exact version

I don't have it installed any longer, but the download file is named "fiddler-4-4-9-4-en-win.exe".

RE did I 4.4 as admin

I don't believe I needed to, it just worked after install.  Noting my account is in Administrators.

RE Windows version

Windows 7 Enterprise SP1

PS I've found an alternative to Fiddler so no rush on fixing this.
