For Q2 2010, it appears as though if you databind it to a ViewModel Property that starts off as Null, and you set it. Then change the ViewModel Property to Null (and Notify Property Change) it keeps the date displayed in the control, instead of clearing out the date. I tested it several times and this appears to be the case.

Well for anyone else the way around this issue for me has been using the SelectedValue and it works as expected.
