Hi,

I've just started to work packet capturing and I'm confused about an issue.

When capturing the traffic from a website, I don't see the real target the requests are sent to. what's the reason? is it due to some kind of encoding or what?

Thanks

Hi Mehdi,

In order to help you with your issue, I would need some more information.

Could you, please, be more specific what "real target" you expect to see. I am not sure what is the meaning of the "real target" term.

is it due to some kind of encoding or what?
If the website uses HTTPS, you have to configure Fiddler to decrypt HTTPS traffic.

Hi Simeon,

I checked and found that decrypt check mark is active in HTTPS tab (by default).

by real target I mean, for example, there is a page getting a value and sends it and shows the response (result) in the browser, Fiddler doesn't show the target URL. like using online SEO tools.

I asked the developers and realized they use APIs but Fiddler doesn't show the URL of the target site.

I hope this makes it clear.

Thanks

I assume that the web page is getting the value from the user and it sends it to "the target". Is "the target" a web API?

It is possible that there is a filter enabled in Fiddler which hides the sessions to the target. In order to check if there is a filter enabled you could click on the Help/Troubleshoot... menu of Fiddler. This enables the troubleshooting mode which shows all sessions and the ones which should be hidden are shown with a 'strikethrough' font.
