Hi

Has Telerik had any thought about creating an image viewer to help us get around the limitations of native jpg or png formats only?

I hate to reference other vendors, but something linke this?...http://demo.leadtools.com/Silverlight/MainDemo/MainDemo.html
Formats supported: JPEG2000, BMP, CALS, GIF, IOCA, JBIG, JBIG2, PNG, TGA, TIFF, EXIF, ICO

I love your tools, but am really frustrated not being able to use image file formats allowed by the browser just because we work in Silverlight!

Thank you
Murray

Hello Murray,

RadControls for Silverlight include an ImageEditor control, that can show, edit and save pictures in different file formats. You can check its online demo here.

It can import PNG, BMP and JPEG files out of the box and can save the image to PNG and BMP. As we have considered the limitation of the framework, we have introduced a pluggable architecture that allows custom-defined encoders and decoders to be used. You can find more information on the supported format providers in this article. The help topic references a blogpost which explains how custom format providers can be wired in the editor. There is also a demo attached to the blog, which offers JPEG export as well.

We have also logged your suggestion for more built-in format providers and you can use PITS to vote for it and track our progress:

You can follow the PITS Issue by its ID: 12572
