cannot load telerik assemblies

I have been working on an application that uses Telerik silverlight controls for a few months now.  (the application contains many projects)  Yesterday I opened one of the projects and it no longer would build. -- it basically couldn't load any of the telerik assemblies.   I removed the telerik references and tried to add them again, but they did not show up in the Add Reference window.  --I can browse to the assemblies in program files, but when I add them, they show "!" and aren't loaded when I build.  It does this on all my projects.  I also tried to create a new project using the RadControls Silverlight template, and it threw an error and did not create the project.

I opened Telerik.Windows.Controls.dll in CheckAsm, and it basically doesn't find any referenced assemblies. (system, mscorlib, system.xml, etc) 

I have tried reinstalling RadControls for Silverlight, but that didn't solve the problem.  I have not made any major changes to my computer recently.

Please let me know of anythnig I can try.

FYI, I was able to fix this by doing a system restore back to 4 days ago.  There were 2 critical windows updates that were applied before this issue arose.

Update:  Restoring my computer didn't really solve the issue.  For some reason, only one of my projects is recognizing the Telerik assemblies.  I opened the project files in notepad for the working project and one of the projects that doesn't work, and the reference is exactly the same.  The assemblies still do not appear in the "Add reference" window, and I cannot add new controls from the tool box. (it allows me to drag them, but does not add them)

Its really strange, and its preventing me from doing any work.  Any thoughts on things I can check or do would be appreaciated.
