To begin with, a Telerik Report Server license includes one deployment of the product to a production environment accessible from a single web domain plus 15 Client Access Licenses (CALs).
Client Access Licenses (CALs) give authorized access to the Telerik Report Server instance. Authorized access, either by providing username and password or using a single sign-on, is required for the following activities that exercise the Report Server:
Use the Report Server Manager to manage the Report Server assets like reports, users, scheduled tasks, etc.;
Use the Standalone Report Designer or the Web Report Designer to edit or author reports;
Use a report viewer control embedded in an application to connect to the Report Server and render a server report document for preview and export;
Use an application that exercises the Report Server APIs to manage the server assets or generate a report document on the server.
Unauthorized access to the Report Server is only allowed when previewing or exporting reports accessible by the Guest account either by using a report URL or an embedded report viewer control.
Administrators assign the available CALs by adding users on the Report Server with appropriate roles and permissions.
If more than 15 CALs are needed, customers can purchase additional CALs at https://www.telerik.com/purchase/report-server. Note that these do not require renewal along with subsequent Report Server renewal.
