Does anyone know how to handle columns?  it appears that this is not a feature Telerik has added yet which i think is a Big oversight.

Most business related documents i have encountered all have columns which means when i tried to use Telerik's component they get all screwed up and not formatted right.  Anyone have a suggestion how to address this short coming in code?

I sure hope Telerik realizes this is a big oversight and for Wordprocessing to be taken seriously they will need this.

In the mean time i either need to move to a different vendor component, or hopefully find a solution here...

any ideas?

Hi Randall,

I am afraid that I am not able to suggest you a suitable approach to define columns for a section. We are aware that this is an important feature, but in our backlog there are tasks with higher demand (respectively priority) and this one currently is not scheduled for implementation. The best I could suggest you is to subscribe to the public item in the feedback portal in order to receive updates when its status changes.

hum, I'm glad your team realizes this is a important feature. In considering a usable Word alternative, our company has been looking at all options. At this point your competitors are more advance with their editors even thought they released them later.

Any company wanting to provide this word (docx) import/load feature in the editor for their customers is going to need this along with other things otherwise the formatting gets screwed up and things get stripped out. Our customers would cause major support nightmares not to mention the bad PR if they used this and their documents keep getting majorly tweaked. I would go as far as to say any serious company using this component would have the same issue. FYI - if you promote your ability to import Word docx files. Then you better allow 1 to 1 import, or else this is really a bad marketing play.

i.e "we support docx (word) import, but first you must take out all your columns, all your charts and all your shapes etc." just don't see customers buying that from us.

looking at the competitive solutions, one in particular does a kick ass job however they lack in the "tracking changes" which your team did a kick ass job.

not sure whats more important now...screw up someones document when importing and give them tracking...

hope this feature gets moved up to top priority in the Editors.

Hi Randall,

Thank you for providing your feedback, we greatly appreciate it.

I wanted to elaborate that the Telerik UI for WPF suite contains two components that allow importing of DOCX documents. One is our RadWordsProcessing library which is a UI-independent processing tool targeting at code generation and processing of documents. Implementing columns for it is one of the top priority features in the backlog and we'll try to get to it for one of our next major releases.

Implementing this for RadRichTextBox, which is a word editor control, is a far more complex task as the visualization and editing when the document is in column layout mode will require an entirely new layout mechanism. For this reason, when evaluating the time and effort required as opposed to the demand for the functionality, we haven't implemented it by now.

I'm unable to commit to a specific release when this might be available but wanted to again thank you for sharing your thoughts. We will additionally discuss this internally and consider increasing the feature's priority.

Regards,
Petya
