What are the installation requirements for TeamPulse?

We currently don't have any TFS installation so I'm wondering if I can even use TeamPulse.

We currently run VS Pro and link to sourcegear Vault.

Here you go...

TeamPulse requires the following components:

  • Silverlight 4 RC Runtime on the client
  • .NET 4 RC Runtime on the server
  • A web site
  • A windows service A SQL Server 2008 Express database
  • Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Service Pack 2 32-bit
  • IIS6 or IIS7 with IIS6 Metabase Compatibility is required

Note: I have successfully installed this on a Windows 2003 R2 Server. I had to make one modification to the web.config (added an assembly reference).

My post went out of control with formatting issues so I'll provide the link to the system requirements.

Hi Gene,

TeamPulse is definitely designed for use in stand-alone fashion within organizations that do not have or utilize Team Foundation Server. The only existing TFS-related requirement is that you must have Visual Studio Team Explorer 2010 installed on the server to which you are deploying TeamPulse. Fortunately Team Explorer is available as a free download from Microsoft, and you can acquire the RC version here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=3d651e2b-b817-4a67-b0f9-d600a07980e0&displaylang=en

Please let us know if you have further issues installing the product into your environment.

So as I understand it, Team Foundation Server is not required as TeamPulse will work as a stand alone product.

You can sync TeamPulse to TFS via the sync connector but it appears that not all information sync's between the two properly (in beta at least).

While I prefer to use only one product, I noticed that there are no Reports available to run/print in TeamPulse and Bug Tracking, Issues, Tasks, Shared Steps and Test Cases are not available in TeamPulse. Are any of these features going to be made available?

I really need TFS for Source Code control but wouldn't mind living in TeamPulse for everything else if we can get some of the additional features that TFS 2010 has.

Also, Is there any plans to intergrate TeamPulse into Visual Studio 10?

Thanks,
Joe

Hey Joe,

You are correct, TeamPulse can be used as a stand alone product.

You are also correct that not all information is being synced, in fact as of beta only a very minimal number of fields are synced by default. That said, it is important to understand that, by default, many of the fields tracked within TeamPulse are not present in the default TFS process templates. Assigned To and State are the two obvious holes in our beta release in terms of sync mapping, and we are working to get those into the full release.

However you can modify the synced fields yourself by way of the project mapping files, as described in the TeamPulse help document section 9.1.2, starting on page 113 (http://www.telerik.com/documents/team-productivity-tools/TeamPulseHelp.pdf). This can allow you to sync TeamPulse data into whatever fields you would like within TFS, including custom fields.

In regards to future features, integration with Tasks and Bugs are high on our priority list for the full version release, as is reporting. For a good indication of where the product is moving from a feature perspective over the next year, please check out the product roadmap: http://www.telerik.com/team-productivity-tools/purchase/roadmap.aspx

As for integration with Visual Studio, we do not currently have plans to do so at this time.

Thanks for all your interest in TeamPulse, we appreciate the feedback!

I'm trying to install the community edition and I don't see the relevant configuration file for TFS integration. What am I missing? Is the community edition restricted?

Hi Saurabh Soni,

TFS Integration is not included with the versions of TeamPulse released (Community or Standard). We decided to delay the TFS Integration components to make sure that we give them the attention they require and get them right. TFS Integration is our top priority for the next release of TeamPulse.

Kind regards,
