Hello Naveen,

I guess that your question is forced by the recent deprecation of the IE browser. Please, find some important notes on the topic:

  • Test Studio (Testing Framework) continues the support of Internet Explorer browser.

From Test Studio (Testing Framework) perspective Internet Explorer remains one of the browsers, which can be used for recording and execution of tests. Thus this is the recommended browser to use, if the tested application runs only under IE - which is the case with Silverlight apps.

You can check this blog post from Microsoft about the future of Internet Explorer browser - in it you can also find a list of platforms, for which the IE desktop application will remain in place. You can use any of these recommended OS versions for continue running the Silverlight tests.

  • The option to use Edge browser in compatible mode is not supported in Test Studio (Testing Framework) solution.

There is no need for Test Studio (Testing Framework) to support this mode of Edge browser because Internet Explorer remains supported.

I hope this information will help you sort out your doubts. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Regards,
Elena

Thanks Elena your guess is correct . IE deprecation and my organisation forced us to use Edge. we have automated quite no of tests around 3000 using telerik testing framework. if we do not have Edge option its tough for us to reuse already automated tests. any workaround do you suggest?

Hi Naveen,

Thank you for confirming my assumption.

The option to run the Testing Framework tests remains to use the Internet Explorer browser. Microsoft continues to support this browser on specific OS platforms - check the list below taken from the official Microsoft post on the topic

The IE11 desktop application remain in-support on these versions of Windows 10:

  • Internet Explorer 11 desktop application on:
    • Windows 8.1 (note: Microsoft Edge version 109 will be the last supported version on Window 8.1 - learn more)
    • Windows 7 Extended Security Updates (ESU) (note: Microsoft Edge version 109 will be the last supported version on Windows 7 - learn more)
    • Windows Server SAC (all versions)
    • Windows 10 IoT Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) (all versions)
    • Windows Server LTSC (all versions)
    • Windows 10 client LTSC (all versions)
    • Windows 10 China Government Edition

With this in mind, the workaround to go for would be to continue using the automated tests for the legacy Silverlight application with Internet Explorer on any of these OS versions.

Thank you for your understanding in advance.

Regards,
Elena
