Up-leveling Your UI in Angular

Wednesday, September 28 | 11 a.m. ET

We will walk through some UI tools like SCSS/SASS and what they can offer us (like variables for reusable styling), while also talking through facelifting the UI of a project and using best practices in our markup and styles.

  • Learn about integrating Sass into your Angular project.
  • Learn about reusable variables in SASS vs CSS Custom Properties
  • What each are, when and how to use them in your Angular app.
  • The importance of naming with CSS properties or variables and how to choose a scalable system.
  • Learn how to include a component library into your project. (The principles to implement a UI Library are fairly universal, but we’ll be using Kendo UI.)
  • Play around with customizing styles and writing custom CSS from scratch.
  • Go over UI/UX principles and implement them on the fly.

Modernizing .NET Apps

Wednesday, October 5 | 11 a.m. ET

.NET 6 has the long-term support badge & .NET 7 is around the corner - many are considering modernizing their apps running on .NET stack. Modern .NET is a solid foundation – a unified runtime & SDK, a simplified development experience and developer productivity through polished tools. The right UI helps as well.

.NET MAUI is all grown up & ushers in the next generation of cross-platform .NET development. A truly single code base powers apps to reach mobile/desktop natively, with tighter inner loop & smarter app architecture. Blazor is mature and enables modern .NET web apps for both server & client side. .NET MAUI also invites web technologies to mobile/desktop – Blazor & JS SPA code reuse is welcome.

Older desktop technologies like WinForms/WPF get a breath of new life. WebForms or MVC on ASP.NET have a way forward. Cloud Native scenarios are here and it is easy to containerize .NET apps. .NET backend APIs become Minimal & more efficient. Upgrade Assistants make migrations easier. All this & more as we take a real-world look at app modernization with latest in .NET.lications built on them, developers often struggle to keep their apps up to date with the latest upgrades and face the risk of accumulating technical debt, as well as all of the pains associated with maintaining applications built on outdated systems. In this talk, Sam Basu, Principal Developer Advocate at Progress, will provide you with a technical deep dive into everything you need to know about modernizing your .NET apps. From major modernization paths and their common challenges to tips to overcoming them.

Getting Started with Accessible Design

Wednesday, October 12 | 11 a.m. ET

Accessibility is one of the places where it’s easiest to fall into analysis paralysis – you catch yourself thinking “just one more blog, one more conference talk, one more video, and then I’ll know enough to start!” However, the best thing you can do is to just jump in and start adding accessibility wherever you can, however you can. In this session, we’ll talk about reframing your thought process to be accessibility-first, as well as easy things you can start doing to incorporate accessible design into your workflow.

Welcoming Everyone to MAUI

Wednesday, October 19 | 11 a.m. ET | Open to the Public

.NET MAUI is the next generation of cross-platform .NET development stack. A truly single code base powers apps to reach mobile/desktop natively, with a tighter inner loop & smarter app architecture. With .NET 6/7, MAUI promotes code reuse across platforms & enables modernization strategies.

Older desktop technologies like WinForms/WPF get a breath of new life. Blazor isn’t just for modern server/client web apps, but now powers native apps with .NET MAUI. Web components and styles can be easily shared between web & native apps. JavaScript SPA apps are welcome too – JS & .NET can freely talk to each other. Polished web UI is reusable on mobile/desktop apps from a true shared codebase & with full platform API access. Welcome to the island mindset with MAUI – let’s mix & match technology stacks and move apps forward.

How to Handle Debugging Scenarios Without Losing Your Mind

Wednesday, November 2 | 11 a.m. ET

Debugging different projects in different environments can take days or even weeks if you take a traditional approach. There is a better way to handle network issues, error status codes, and other performance errors. We’ll explore how to rethink the way we test and debug by walking through real-life scenarios. With the right guide and tooling, we can demonstrate how to easily find, monitor, and fix web application errors. Beyond performance, you’ll gain insight into capturing and inspecting mobile traffic along with how to approach API troubleshooting to deliver successful outcomes.
