Telerik Extensions for ASP.NET MVC

This help topic shows how to upgrade Telerik Extensions for ASP.NET MVC.

Manual Upgrade

To perform a manual upgrade you must perform the following steps:
  1. Download the latest version of Telerik Extensions for ASP.NET MVC and install it (or extract it somewhere if you prefer working with the zip file). The Installation instructions help topic provides more details about download and installation.
  2. Open your ASP.NET MVC application in Visual Studio.
  3. Update the Telerik.Web.Mvc assembly reference:
    1. Delete the existing Telerik.Web.Mvc reference.
    2. Add a reference to the latest Telerik.Web.Mvc.dll. To do so browse to the location where the latest version was installed or extracted in the first step. Make sure you are using the right build. For ASP.NET MVC 1 applications use the Telerik.Web.Mvc.dll located in Binaries/Mvc1. For ASP.NET MVC 2 applications use the Telerik.Web.Mvc.dll located in Binaries/Mvc2.
    3. Update the Scripts folder which contains the JavaScript files of Telerik Extensions for ASP.NET MVC. The JavaScript files are located in a subfolder of the Scripts folder of your ASP.NET MVC application named after the version of Telerik.Web.Mvc.dll e.g. ~/Scripts/2010.2.825.
      1. Delete the existing subfolder.
      2. Copy the Scripts folder from the install location of the latest version (or the folder where you have extracted it) in your application.
      3. Example:

If you are upgrading from Q2 2010 (assembly version 2010.2.825) to Q2 2010 SP1 (assembly version 2010.2.930) you need to delete ~/Scripts/2010.2.825 from your ASP.NET MVC application and copy the Scripts folder which comes with the newer version. As a result you should have ~/Scripts/2010.2.930 in your application.
      4. Update the Content folder which contains the CSS and image files of Telerik Extensions for ASP.NET MVC: Those files are located in a subfolder of the Content folder of your ASP.NET MVC application named after the version of Telerik.Web.Mvc.dll e.g. ~/Content/2010.2.825.
        1. Delete the existing subfolder.
        2. Copy the Content folder from the install location of the latest version (or the folder where you have extracted it) in your application.
        3. Example:

If you are upgrading from Q2 2010 (assembly version 2010.2.825) to Q2 2010 SP1 (assembly version 2010.2.930) you need to delete ~/Content/2010.2.825 from your ASP.NET MVC application and copy the Content folder which comes with the newer version. As a result you should have ~/Content/2010.2.930 in your application.
        4. Update the localization files by copying the App_GlobalResources folder from the latest version in your project. Overwrite any existing files.
        5. Update the editor template files by copying the EditorTemplates folder from the latest version to ~/Views/Shared of your application. Overwrite any existing files.
