Hello,

I have been having issues with Visual Studio 2022 (17.7 and 17.8) crashing when running a 'Find and Replace' or when trying to merge a file using GIT. After submitting the issue to the Visual Studio support team, we discovered that either the Telerik MVC or Core extension is the cause.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue? If so, is it being fixed in the next release?

Thanks

Ben

I am currently using VS 2022 17.9. and experience the same issue. When running Find and Replace VS will crash without an error message. I'll see what I can do about logging it according to Vesko's comment.

Microsoft's comment is on Visual Studio's developer fourm.

Hello Amber,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Such a problem was not reported until now.

In order to reproduce the problem, I have installed the current latest version (2023.3.1117) of Telerik UI for ASP.NET Core and Telerik UI for ASP.NET MVC extensions. I have performed general GIT and search operations in Visual Studio 2022 (17.7.3 and 17.8.3). On my environment I haven't notices performance issues or crashes.

In order to continue my investigation, would you please share additional details that could help:

  • The exact steps to reproduce the problem.
  • The statement of Microsoft can be helpful. If error logs are available, please share them.
  • Visual Studio activity log can contain trace of potential problems. On the bottom of this article you can find how to generate one. You will have to reproduce the problem after the log generation is activated.
  • The application error logs from Windows Event Views.
  • What kind of projects are available in the Visual Studio solution you test on?

Troubleshooting the problem

At this point, you can disable each of the extensions in order to identify which one causes the problem. This can be done from Visual Studio extensions manager in the main menu - Extensions -> Managed Extensions... -> Installed. Have in mind that Visual Studio restart will be required in order to complete the operation.

Thank very much for you patience in advance. Visual Studio performance is very important concern and your cooperation will be really appreciated.

Regards,
Vesko
