Hi,  I'm just getting my feet wet using the map control, it looks great.  Couple of questions, where does one get the shape and db files?  I imagine there are some open source ones online?  Can we use some of the ones in your samples?  Can you add points to the map programmatically at design/run time or both?

thanks

Hello Patrick,

Thank you for your interest.

The shapefiles that we use in the examples are under Creative Commons licensing and can be used for demonstrative purpose only. There are tools like MapWindow GIS that support creation of shapefiles, but creating such geo-imagery is by no means a simple task so I would suggest that you either look for some useful ready-made solutions under Creative Commons licensing(e.g.
http://www.geocommons.com) or check what a commercial GIS vendor like ArcGIS can offer in terms of available shapefiles.
For the last question the answer is yes you can add points to the MapUserLayer at runtime. Here you can find more information : http://www.telerik.com/help/windows-8-xaml/radmap-mapuserlayer.html

I hope this is useful. Please, let me know should you have other questions.
